Super Saiyan God Goku Dragon Ball Super - Figures

With the addition of Beerus the god of destruction, the Dragon Ball universe was shaken up again. Awakening from his centuries-long slumber in search of the ‘Super Saiyan God’ from his dreams, Beerus makes his way to Earth, where the last remaining Saiyans reside. Stopping at King Kai’s planet Beerus meets Goku, the latter requests a sparring match, much to Beerus’ delight but the hot-blooded Saiyan is clearly outmatched as Super Saiyan 3 Goku is knocked out by a tap on the shoulder. Goku then achieving the power of Super Saiyan God has a rematch with the mighty god of destruction. Putting up a far better fight against a 70% Beerus but still end up losing. This is an unfair comparison however when considering that Beerus is in fact a god and Goku is only using god ki. Super Saiyan God Goku’s debut was equal parts interesting and amazing. God ki by performing a ritual of pure-blooded Saiyans is an interesting concept and the flaming red aura that Goku receives is amazing. In this form, Goku is somewhat slimmer than in his base and regular Super Saiyan form. The use of god ki renders muscular strength and endurance obsolete, instead of making gains in speed and agility.

Maximatic Dragon Ball Super Goku Vol. 5 Figure

Goku manages to use a special ki technique seen here to stop the rampaging Broly in his tracks in the 2018 smash hit movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly. It’s the first—and so far only— instance of the technique being used in the Dragon Ball series, making the scene in which it debuted stand out as unique and original. The materials and paint used for this figure make the hair somewhat shinier than other figures while Goku’s skin tone and clothes are slightly darker. The shading on the muscles looks particularly well done, breathing some depth and character into Banpresto’s wonderful offering.

Dragon Ball Super Goku Fes!! Vol. 9 Figure

Goku had a tough time fighting against Beerus, even with his new Super Saiyan God powers. Flying towards his adversary and winding up a punch, regardless of the advanced Super Saiyan Blue form, Super Saiyan God Goku is a devastating fighter. Sculpted by Hiroyuki Nakazawa, Goku is 20cm, painted and non-articulated on a stand.

About Super Saiyan God Goku

Super Saiyan God is based on a premonition Beerus, the god of destruction had while sleeping. Goku gains this form by a gathering ritual involving five pure Saiyans standing in a circle around him.

Background

The ritual was performed by Vegeta, Trunks, Goten, Gohan, and the baby inside of Videl’s body as the fifth Saiyan. The form requires intense focus (as seen during Vegeta’s transformation during the battle with Broly in Dragon Ball Super: Broly) but grants the user the ability to harness god ki; and is therefore far stronger than the original ki using Super Saiyan and Kaioken forms. In the anime version, Goku absorbs the god ki from the form and thus adds to his base as noted by Beerus. In the manga version, this doesn’t happen and Super Saiyan God remains a separate state from base or regular Super Saiyan forms.

Special Abilities

Super Saiyan God is leaps and bounds ahead of base and Super Saiyan forms in strength and speed. Using this form Goku and Vegeta have both displayed original attacks. In the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Vegeta fires blasts of clear ki at Broly and Goku freezes him with a ki technique.

Other Important Dragon Ball Super Characters

The creation of Super Saiyan God can be attributed to both coincidence and pure luck. That the form requires a ritual involving a specific number of Saiyans—a race that was considered all but extinct—and that number being exactly the number of Saiyans on Earth, is in and of itself quite the coincidence. Add to this that the premonition occurred when it did, bringing with it the knowledge of the form when there is exactly the correct number of Saiyans to make it happen, is pure luck.

The Sayians / Half-Saiyans

Five individuals of Saiyan heritage were required for the ritual to take place. Pure Saiyan; Vegeta. Half-Saiyan; Trunks, Gohan, Goten. That left only one—Videl and Gohan’s unborn child, Pan. Holding hands in a circle around Goku, and letting their power flow through him, he was temporarily awakened as a Super Saiyan God.

Beerus

It was Beerus’ premonition that led him to Earth in search of the Super Saiyan God. When discovering that no one knew anything about the form, he decided to destroy Earth until the Earthlings suggested asking Shenron. Much to Beerus’ delight Goku achieved Super Saiyan God thanks to Shenron’s advice allowing him to fight at up to 70% of his power. Beerus notes that it had been a long time since anyone had pushed him so far.
