OtapediaBardock Dragon Ball - Figures

Dragon Ball is one of the biggest names in the Japanese anime and manga industry. Spanning an incredible 36 years since the debut publication in Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine, the Dragon Ball franchise is still going strong. With its easily accessible comedy/martial arts style, the adventures of Son Goku and his band of friends propelled Dragon Ball to unthinkable heights of success. Penned by Akira Toriyama of Dr. Slump fame, the original serialization of Dragon Ball came to an end in 1995 with the defeat of Majin Buu; peace restored to the world. Along the way, many questions were answered officially by Toriyama’s work and unofficially in spin-offs and specials by third-parties such as animation studios. One such question is that of Goku’s father, Bardock. With a number of spin-offs and specials, even appearing in his own OVA, Bardock and his crew found favor with the Dragon Ball fanbase. Here are some popular figures of Bardock, the father of Goku that include the “S.H.Figuarts Dragon Ball Z Bardock”, “Dragon Ball Z Famous Low-class Warrior Bardock” and the “Dragon Ball Z Grandista Manga Dimensions Bardock”.

Dragon Ball Z Famous Low-class Warrior Bardock Figure

Bardock is famous for his time working under Frieza as a planet capturing mercenary along with his trusty squad. This all changed however when Frieza decided that the Saiyans were a dangerous race and should be exterminated. Canonically Bardock died when Frieza blew up Planet Vegeta with a giant Deathball, but non-canonically, he survived by being teleported into the past. Awakening to find himself on an unfamiliar planet surrounded by unfamiliar aliens until Freiza’s goons show up. It turns out that these goons are actually Chilled’s goons (Frieza's ancestor) and during the ensuing battle Bardock transforms into a Super Saiyan, starting the legend of the Super Saiyans of which Frieza is so afraid. Hand outstretched to fire a spirit cannon, and golden super Saiyan hair, at 17cm / 6.7”, Bardock may not be articulated, but he strikes an awesome pose.

  • Series: Dragon Ball Z
  • Manufacturer: Banpresto
  • Specifications: Painted, non-articulated, non-scale figure with stand
  • Height (Approx.): 17cm / 6.7”

Dragon Ball Z Grandista Manga Dimensions Bardock Figure

The difference that good shading makes can truly be breathtaking. Such is the case with Dragon Ball Z Grandista Manga Dimensions Bardock. Standing at a fairly tall 280mm Bardock features some excellent shading. The highlights and shadows lend a look that is straight out of an animation. Contrast gives the model a truly 3D pop. Green scouter on the left ear and his trademark red bandanna in his left hand, the classic Bardock look.

  • Specifications: Painted, non-articulated, non-scale figure ABS & PVC figure with stand
  • Height (Approx.): 280mm / 11”

About Bardock

Bardock was the leader of a five-man space mercenary outfit working for Frieza to eradicate and capture planets. He and his team were likely responsible for many deaths and countless planets being sold illegally by Frieza’s Empire. Canonically Bardock caught wind of Frieza’s scheme to annihilate the Saiyan race and before the planet was destroyed, sent his baby son Kakarot (Goku) to Earth in a space pod. His older son Raditz was accompanying prince Vegeta on a combat mission, ensuring his safety. Non-canonically however, moments before the destruction of Planet Vegeta, Bardock was teleported into the past where he faced Chilled (Frieza’s ancestor) and became the first Super Saiyan.

Other Important Dragon Ball Z Characters

With the addition of the Broly movie, it was revealed that Bardock’s wife and Goku’s mother was called Gine. Frieza is potentially the most important character relative to Bardock. Without Frieza destroying Planet Vegeta, Goku would never have been sent to Earth by Bardock and the Dragon Ball series wouldn’t have existed as it does.
