Ainz Ooal Gown Overlord - Figures

Overlord is a series of Isekai dark fantasy light novels written by Kugane Maruyama that was first published on the internet in 2010 but was later printed by Enterbrain in 2012. As of the end of 2020, there are currently fourteen volumes of Overlord that have been published. After gaining a significant amount of readership, an anime adaptation of the original series was produced by studio Madhouse and aired on television in Japan in September 2015. Two additional seasons of the anime were also aired in January and July 2018 as well. The series was generally rated positively by fans, resulting in many manufacturers being eager to release various kinds of merchandise for fans to add to their collections. One of the most popular kinds of merchandise are figures of the series’ protagonist, Ainz Ooal Gown. Out of the handful of figures that are available for fans to pick up, some of the most popular include the “Overlord Ainz Ooal Gown Non-Scale Figure”, the “Ainz Ooal Gown: Yukata Ver. 1/8 Scale Figure”, and the “Nendoroid Overlord Ainz Ooal Gown (Re-run)”.

Overlord Ainz Ooal Gown Non-Scale Figure

This figure from Kadokawa features the proud and powerful ruler of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, Ainz Ooal Gown, wearing his classic outfit. This outfit consists of a black robe with gold and purple trim and a long, purple sash that nearly reaches the ground. The robe has a hood that covers part of Ainz’s head but exposes his bony undead body and the red orb that hides in his abdomen. In one hand, Ainz holds the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown, an intricate golden staff topped with several snake heads with colored jewels in their mouths. His other hand is raised out and has transparent magical energy emanating from it, denoting Ainz’s ability as an incredibly powerful spellcaster.

Ainz Ooal Gown: Yukata Ver. 1/8 Scale Figure

This figure from Furyu has Ainz Ooal Gown enjoying a summer festival by putting him in a unique summer yukata. This yukata features a simple green and white diamond design and is tied with a blue sash at his waist. The yukata is also open from the waist up, exposing Ainz’s bony rib cage and his red orb. Ainz is also posed standing casually as keeps one arm tucked inside of his yukata as he holds on to a small tub with soap and a towel with the other. This figure also has a joint in the neck that lets users change the angle of Ainz’s head to some degree. Furyu has also produced a yukata version of Albedo as well, making them both great additions to one’s collection.

Nendoroid Overlord Ainz Ooal Gown (Re-run)

This figure from Good Smile Company’s popular Nendoroid line takes the intimidating design of Ainz Ooal Gown and gives him a cute, chibi-style twist. It still includes all of Ainz’s classic design, like his black robes and bony body, but makes his head the largest part of the figure. This figure also features movable parts on Ainz’s face, most notably being his bony eyebrows and jaw, which can all be moved up and down to change his expression. Several extra parts are also included, like various arms and the Staff of Ainz Ooal Gown to allow for plenty of customization.

About Ainz Ooal Gown

Ainz Ooal Gown is the protagonist of Overlord and acts as the leader of the Great Tomb of Nazarick. Before the virtual world of Yggdrasil became reality, he went by the name Momonga and only took the name of his infamous guild, Ainz Ooal Gown, as a way to find other former players of the game. Generally speaking, Ainz is a cold and calculating leader that is highly respected by the NPCs in Nazarick. He often acts noble and dignified around them, but also finds the act to be quite tiring at times. Perhaps due to his evil and undead nature, Ainz will also not hesitate to deceive an opponent in order to gain the upper hand in a given situation. In terms of goals, Ainz strives to spread his name across the world and turn it into an eternal legend that will never die out.

Other Important Overlord Characters

As the ruler of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, Ainz often comes into contact with many of the NPCs within it. Some of the most notable are Albedo, Shalltear Bloodfallen, Pandora’s Actor, and Narberal Gamma. Albedo is Ainz’s second-in-command and the leader of the Floor Guardians. Right before Yggdrasil’s servers were to be shut down, Ainz jokingly edited her behavior so that she would be in love with him, though he regretted this after realizing the game was now his reality. Shalltear is one of the strongest Floor Guardians in Nazarick and often competes with Albedo for Ainz’s attention. Pandora’s Actor is an NPC that was created by Ainz himself while Narberal Gamma is one of his battle maids that accompanies Ainz when he travels outside of Nazarick.
