OtapediaGiyu Tomioka Demon Slayer - Figures

The Demon Slayer franchise first began as a manga that was created by Koyoharu Gotoge and serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2016. The manga performed very well among readers of the magazine, eventually resulting in the manga receiving an anime adaptation that was produced by Ufotable in April 2019. This adaptation caused the name of the series to spread like wildfire, making it an instant classic among many in the anime community. With the explosive popularity of Demon Slayer came an equally large demand for merchandise from fans, which manufacturers were more than eager to supply. Although things like plushies, prints, and apparel were enjoyed by many, one of the most popular kinds of merchandise fans like to collect are figures of their favorite characters. One such character is Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira (also known as the Water Pillar) of the Demon Slayers. Out of the many different figures of this character, some of the most popular are the “Figuarts Zero Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Giyu Tomioka: Water Breathing”, the “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Figure Collection Vol. 5 (Re-run)”, and the “Nendoroid Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Giyu Tomioka”.

Figuarts Zero Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Giyu Tomioka: Water Breathing Figure

This figure from Bandai’s Figuarts Zero line features Giyu as he prepares to launch an attack on a demon with his Water Breathing technique. He is posed bent down low, nearly kneeling on the ground as he brandishes his Nichirin Blade and prepares to swing it. Despite being in the heat of battle, Giyu has the same cold, distant expression he usually has on his face. Water effects swirl around Giyu’s body and help give the figure a more dynamic and action-packed feeling. Particular attention has also been given to Giyu’s clothing, which consists of the standard black Demon Slayer uniform and his unique split-patterned haori. Both the uniform and Giyu’s haori have numerous creases and folds in them, making them seem incredibly realistic.

The figure of Giyu has him posing casually with both hands at his sides. His Nichirin Blade is also attached to his white belt, which contrasts perfectly with his black Demon Slayer uniform. His baggy pants are wrapped up tightly around his ankles and calves by a white pair of buttoned wraps. His split haori is also worn as well, showing off both the solid pink half from his sister and the green and yellow geometrical patterned half from his friend, Sabito.

This chibi-style figure of Giyu comes from Good Smile Company’s popular Nendoroid series and features a variety of different points of articulation and extra parts to allow for plenty of customization. This figure of Giyu includes several facial expressions, like his usual neutral, distant stare, a rare, uncharacteristic angry expression, and a rather comedic shocked expression. Various pairs of arms and legs also let users create many different action-oriented and casual poses as well. About Giyu Tomioka

Giyu Tomioka is the Water Hashira of the Demon Slayers and is the first Demon Slayer the protagonist, Tanjiro Kamado interacts with in the series. Although he generally has a distant, reserved nature, he has a strong desire to rid the world of demons. Giyu does, however, violate these codes he stands by when he spares Tanjiro’s sister, Nezuko after she had turned into a demon. As the Water Hashira, Giyu is an exceptionally powerful swordsman that utilizes the Water Breathing technique. Like Tanjiro, Giyu was also taught this Breathing technique by the former Water Hashira, Sakonji Urokodaki. With his experience and combat skill, Giyu is easily able to take down some of Muzan’s most elite demons, like the Lower Rank 5 demon, Rui.

Other Important Demon Slayer Characters

The relationship between Giyu and the protagonist, Tanjiro, was quite shaky at first, as Giyu was set on killing Nezuko after learning she was a demon. Tanjiro was, however, able to convince Giyu to spare her. Giyu went so far as to tell Tanjiro about how to find his master, Sakonji Urokodaki, so he could become a Demon Slayer himself and attempt to find a way to turn Nezuko back into a human. Because of his distant personality, he does not interact with many of the other Hashira outside of meetings but does seem to enjoy talking with Shinobu Kocho, despite their conflicting personalities.
