OtapediaMakoto Niijima Persona 5 - Figures

Makoto Niijima is one of the fan-favorite romanceable confidants in Persona 5. Fans love her prim and proper appearance contrasted with her Mad Max survival style Phantom Thief design. Makoto’s codename “Queen” fits her leader personality, but her strong characteristics don’t detract from her sweet, natural beauty. That beauty is on full display in the library of figures depicting Makoto, even when she dons her full battle regalia. Three Makoto Niijima figures that showcase both her strength and beauty are “Nendoroid Persona 5 Makoto Niijima Phantom Thief Ver.,” “Persona 5 Makoto Niijima Phantom Thief Ver. w/ Johanna 1/8 Scale Figure,” and “Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight Makoto Niijima 1/7 Scale Figure.”

Nendoroid Persona 5 Makoto Niijima Phantom Thief Ver. Figure

Makoto, AKA Queen, still looks like a cool post-apocalyptic raider in chibi form. This figure from Good Smile Company shows Makoto in her Phantom Thief disguise. The spikes on her shoulders and knees look as painfully sharp as the ones on her brass knuckles. For long-range combat, Makoto has her handgun available. While Makoto isn’t the biggest fan of her mask, the figure comes with two versions of it: one to wear and one handheld accessory. The figure includes an attachment so the mask can be worn over any of her three facial expressions. Makoto can stand cool and collected, raging in battle, or smiling in victory. The mask, expression, and prop combinations make for a number of intense scenes and attack poses for Queen to strike.

Persona 5 Makoto Niijima Phantom Thief Ver. w/ Johanna 1/8 Scale Figure

This bold scale figure from Amakuni depicts Makoto and her Persona Johanna perched and ready for battle. Makoto rides in her Thief outfit, but without her mask to reveal her slyly smiling expression. The vest overlay realistically buckles and folds like a strong leather around her torso. Her long black scarf blows in the wind behind her as she looks back coyly over her shoulder. She brandishes a gun in her left hand, finishing off her confident pose. Equally detailed is Johanna, Makoto’s Persona and hi-tech motorcycle. Johanna’s sleek frame curves around partially visible pipes, bolts, and vents to remind fans of her impressive machinery. Her face shows through the translucent blue plastic above her front wheel. Her eyes are closed, signaling that Johanna has not awakened for battle just yet.

Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight Makoto Niijima 1/7 Scale Figure

From Amakuni comes another scale figure, this time, however, Makoto is gettin’ down. The design comes from Makoto’s appearance in the Dancing in Starlight game. She wears a punk-inspired outfit with red laced boots and a safety-pinned t-shirt alongside her Shujin uniform skirt. The figure comes with a studded belt with a chain, thigh-high socks with garters, and a choker adorned with a silver padlock. She stands on one leg with the other bent at the knee while she arches her back, sticking her chest far out in front of her. Her arm is raised above her head and her hair swings along with her dancing. Like the rest of the Dancing in Starlight crew, Makoto wears a red bandanna--hers is tied around her upper arm.

About Makoto Niijima

Makoto Niijima is the Shujin Academy student body president by day and rebellious Phantom Thief by night. In the beginning, Makoto lacks a sense of self and instead keeps her head down and does what she’s told. As a result, she is an excellent student, embodying obedience, and perfectionism. However, her feelings of powerlessness after failing to do anything to stop Kamoshida, she turns her attention toward uncovering the Phantom Thieves. Instead of revealing their identities, Makoto enlists the Thieves to stop crime boss Kaneshiro from extorting students in Shibuya. Here she awakens her Persona and joins the Phantom Thieves with the vow to be more honest with herself. Makoto is incredibly serious and occasionally bossy, yet kind despite her explosive temper.

Other Important Persona 5 Characters

Ann Tamaki is the first female Phantom Thief to join the gang as they take down their first palace. At first, Ann is withdrawn as a result of her appearance, which leads to her being objectified or scorned. Through supporting her friend Shiho and defeating Kamoshida, Ann begins to reach out. She becomes more open and friendly, revealing her kind and compassionate nature. Ann is initially hostile toward Makoto for endangering the Phantom Thieves but they eventually become close friends.

Ryuuji Sakamoto is the first character aside from the Protagonist to awaken a Persona. When the Protagonist stumbles into the Metaverse accidentally, Ryuuji gets dragged along with him. Upon seeing Kamoshida in his palace, Ryuuji grows more disgusted with the abusive teacher. After becoming a Phantom Thief, Ryuuji throws himself wholeheartedly into the cause, determined to stop selfish adults from ruining the world for others. Ryuuji is loud, energetic, and a stereotypical “problem child.” He often clashes with Makoto who chides him for his behavior.
