Toru Oikawa Haikyuu!! - Figures

Within the franchise and the fandom, Toru Oikawa is one of the breakout characters in the Haikyu!! universe. Fans love Oikawa not only as the original final boss style antagonist but for his relatable struggle in a cast filled with amazing talent. Of course, his bullying personality and multiple contentious relationships add to his enduring appeal. Oikawa was also the first non-protagonist figure released for Haikyu!!, even before the series regulars and main team favorites. His far-reaching popularity has inspired scale figures, articulated models, and multiple chibi depictions. Three Oikawa figures that represent his cheeky personality are “Chibi Kyun Chara Haikyu!! Chibi Kyun Chara Haikyu!! Junior High School Vol. 1 - Toru Oikawa Figure

This chibi figure from Banpresto shows Oikawa from his Kitagawa Daiichi days. Oikawa wears his training jersey from middle school, complete with the school kanji on his back. He crouches in a taunting stance with one fist clenched and the other hand reaching for his bottom eyelid. He’s sticking out his tongue and his eyebrows are angrily angled downward. His pose and demeanor are reminiscent of his third-year encounter with a young Tobio Kageyama. The figure comes with a small stand featuring a Kita-ichi uniform collar and the school name written in kanji. “Oikawa” is also written along the top. As a subtle detail, Oikawa is wearing the same volleyball shoe design he wears in the anime throughout high school.

Haikyu!! Creator x Creator Toru Oikawa Figure

Oikawa stands with a cocky bravado in this figure from Banpresto’s Creator x Creator line. He’s posed with his feet in a wide stance and his right hand resting on his hip. His left hand extends outward as he points to a target in the distance. He’s wearing his standard white Aoba Johsai uniform with his track jacket draped over his shoulders. The black kneepad and white knee brace will also stand out to Oikawa fans. His head is slightly turned toward his raised hand and he wears a smug expression. The subtle carving detail in his jersey shows realistic movement in response to his pose. More notable sculpting details include the muscles in his arms and forearms as well as the creases in his fingers. The figure comes in two versions, one in full color and an alternate grayscale with only the Seijoh blue filled in.

Nendoroid Haikyu!! Toru Oikawa School Uniform Ver. Figure

Oikawa returns to the Nendoroid line, this time wearing the Seijoh school uniform. His beige plaid pants complement the light colors of his sweater and blazer. Oikawa notably wears his uniform properly with his tie neatly fastened instead of loosely worn like most of the Seijoh team. The figure comes with two faceplates: a winking expression and a rude jeer with his tongue sticking out. Optional parts also include additional hand parts, including a taunting gesture as well as two peace signs, and a milk bread prop. There’s also a backdrop of the Seijoh team’s favorite ramen shop. Finally, the figure also features a stand with a volleyball pattern in Aoba Johsai colors.

About Toru Oikawa

Toru Oikawa is considered the best setter in the Miyagi prefecture, and perhaps the best in Japan. Oikawa had a natural affinity for sports growing up, particularly volleyball. However, over time he faced players with greater natural talent that he seemingly couldn’t overcome. This harsh reality took its greatest form in the genius setter underclassman, Tobio Kageyama. Eventually, Oikawa accepted the difference between him and the genius players around him and honed his individual skills, making him a terrifying opponent in high school volleyball. Despite his serious commitment to the sport, Oikawa has a flashy, and often petty personality that clashes with most of the players around him. His good looks also earned him a large fan club and media attention, making him a greater target for resentment among his peers.

Other Important Haikyu!! Characters

Hajime Iwaizumi is Oikawa’s childhood best friend and ace spiker for their team, Aoba Johsai. Iwaizumi often has to rein in Oikawa’s childish antics, particularly when he clashes with Kageyama. Like Oikawa, Iwaizumi is not a genius or massive player, therefore he receives less attention than other aces in the prefecture. However, his strength, dependability, and confidence make him the most beloved member of his team.

Wakatoshi Ushijima is the top ace in Miyagi prefecture and ranked third in all of Japan. As a left-handed hitter, Ushijima’s spikes are particularly difficult to receive. That combined with his natural sense for the game and way above average strength makes him a seemingly insurmountable monster in high school volleyball. Oikawa views Ushijima as his ultimate wall to overcome, as Ushijima’s team is always the one to defeat Oikawa in the end.
