OtapediaNieR: Automata - Figures

NieR: Automata is an action role-playing game that was developed by PlatinumGames and published by Square Enix. Although the game was originally released in Japan for PlayStation 4 in February 2017, it was later ported to Windows and Xbox One in March 2017 and June 2018 respectively. NieR: Automata is also the sequel to NieR, which is in itself both a spin-off and a sequel to the Drakengard series. Although the game is set in the distant future where most characters are artificially created beings, many fans quite enjoy how its main characters are written and designed, with the most popular character being 2B, the main combat android that the player uses. That said, players found the various other characters that inhabit the world of NieR: Automata endearing as well. As such, figures inspired by the characters from this game are very popular among diehard fans and collectors in the NieR franchise. Out of the wide variety of figures that one can find, some of the most popular include the “Bring Arts NieR: Automata YoRHa Type A No. 2”, the “NieR: Automata Adam & Eve Set”, and the “NieR: Automata YoRHa No. 2 Type B DX Ver. 1/7 Scale Figure”.

Bring Arts NieR: Automata YoRHa Type A No. 2 Figure

This item from Square Enix’s Bring Arts line of figures features the alternate playable character from NieR: Automata, Type A No. 2, also simply referred to as A2. Like many other figures in the Bring Arts collection, this figure of A2 also includes multiple points of articulation along her joints and a variety of extra parts to help users recreate their favorite scenes from the game. Some of the included parts are two different hairstyles, three different weapons, the robotic Forest King cradled in a baby carriage, and a display stand to keep A2 standing in any position.

NieR: Automata YoRHa No. 2 Type B DX Ver. 1/7 Scale Figure

This scale figure from Flare features the main playable character, the battle android, YoRHa No. 2 Type B, who is often simply referred to as 2B. Although it is not articulated like the previously mentioned items, this figure makes up for it with the sheer amount of detail that is packed into every single nook and cranny. 2B is wearing her classic outfit, which consists of a solid black dress with a pattern lining the bottom and chest, matching black thigh-high boots, and a pair of long silver gloves. Particular attention was given to 2B’s clothing, as it is full of wrinkles and folds to give it a more natural, realistic look. The NieR: Automata Series Story

The world of NieR: Automata is set in the same world as its predecessor, NieR, but it is set far into the future of NieR’s fourth ending. In this world, a war between humans and aliens has been fought for thousands of years through their respective artificial creations. Humanity is represented by Androids while the aliens have their many Machines. The player first takes control of YoRHa No. 2 Type B, often referred to as 2B. She, along with the support unit 9S, attempts to help a Machine named Pascal that abandoned his mission in order to realize his dream of creating a world where Androids and Machines can live in peace. As 2B and 9S try to accomplish this mission, they come across Adam and Eve, the main antagonists and effective leaders of the Machines.

The NieR: Automata Series Development

Although executives from Square Enix were originally hesitant to greenlight a sequel for NieR, general positive reception from fans and persuasive attempts from director Yoko Taro and producer Yosuke Saito led to development for NieR: Automata beginning shortly after its predecessor’s release. That said, staff that worked on NieR wanted its sequel to be more action-oriented leading to PlatinumGames being brought on as a development team. This studio had previously worked on the Bayonetta series and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which are well known for their engaging action-based gameplay. Like NieR, NieR: Automata has multiple different endings, with the latter containing twenty-six in the base game. With so many endings, several playthroughs are required to experience the entire plot of the game.
