Big Daddy Bioshock - Figures
BioShock is a video game series that is developed by Irrational Games, 2K Australia, and 2K Marin. The first game, simply named BioShock, was first released in August 2007 and features a combination of first-person shooting and role-playing game mechanics. Although the first two games take place in the 1960s, the series is set in a fictional version of Earth where incredible advancements in genetic manipulation have been discovered, allowing people to gain unusual, supernatural abilities. Fans praised the game for the series’s retro futuristic setting, art deco-style visuals, and philosophical narrative, leading to the first game performing incredibly well. One recurring entity in the BioShock series is the Big Daddy, the guardians of the Little Sisters. The Big Daddies act much like a mascot for the series and are featured prominently on the cover art for the first two games. As such, no collection of BioShock merchandise would be complete without a figure of a Big Daddy. One notably popular figure of a Big Daddy is the “Bioshock Big Daddy & Little Sister 1/6th Scale Collectible Figure”.
Bioshock Big Daddy & Little Sister 1/6th Scale Collectible Figure
This scale figure set from ThreeZero features a Big Daddy in its full glory, but at one-sixth the size. Nearly every aspect of the Bouncer variant of Big Daddy from the original BioShock is perfectly sculpted in this figure. The old-fashioned diving suit is textured to look like it is made out of thick, hefty material that is fitted with several large metal bracers. The suit itself is an earthy green color, which pairs nicely with the partially corroded color of the metal. The most distinct aspect of the figure is the metal diving helmet that covers its entire head and torso. The massive drill on the figure’s right arm and the eight viewing holes in the head of the helmet complete the Big Daddy’s look.
Aside from the incredible amount of detail found in this figure, there are several features that are unique to this figure alone that make it stand out against other items in the market. The most impressive feature of this figure is likely the thirty-five points of articulation it has, despite being a scale figure. Other optional parts include an extra hand and detachable drill. The set also has a Little Sister for the Big Daddy to protect. Like the Big Daddy, the figure of the Little Sister is also articulated.

About Big Daddies
Big Daddies are a type of enemy that appears in the BioShock series. Here is a brief introduction below.
Background
Before the creation of Big Daddies, the underwater city of Rapture required workers to use diving suits to repair the enclosure surrounding the supposed paradise from the outside. This work was not voluntary, however, as the people inside the suits were often prisoners, exiled citizens, or the mentally ill. Candidates that would become Big Daddies were forcibly grafted into their suits, mentally conditioned, and genetically altered to do the work they were given.
As the desire to alter one’s DNA and gain superpowers rose in Rapture, so did the demand for ADAM, the material used to grant such abilities. Once Rapture fell into ruin, the remaining inhabitants were left still addicted to ADAM, leading to Dr. Yi Suchong devising a plan to collect ADAM from corpses found throughout Rapture. Little Sisters were the ones tasked with collection but required protection from Big Daddies so they were not attacked by desperate Splicers.
Types of Big Daddies
The first model of Big Daddy to be created was the Alpha Series. Unlike future models, Alpha Series Big Daddies can use Plasmid abilities and are constantly hostile toward others. The flagship type of Big Daddy is the Bouncer, which specializes in close-range combat. Their main weapon is a massive drill of their right arms. Although they lack a method of long-range combat, they are able to use a devastating charge attack. Rosies are bulkier and slower than Bouncers, but make use of mines and a rivet gun. The newest model of Big Daddy is the Rumbler, which sacrifices some of its armor for extra mobility and better-ranged combat possibilities. It uses a combination of mini-turrets and rockets to unleash a deadly amount of force against its opponents. The most advanced type of Big Daddy is the Lancer, which is equipped with a stylized set of armor and an Ion Laser.
Other Important Bioshock Characters
Two characters are associated with the creation of Big Daddies as they came to be known in Rapture. These characters are Dr. Yi Suchong and Dr. Gilbert Alexander.
Dr. Yi Suchong
Dr. Suchong is a Korean doctor that is responsible for much of the medical advances found in Rapture, specifically with those surrounding ADAM, its production, and its various uses on the human body. Some of the most notable achievements he made in his career were the creation of Little Sisters, Plasmids, and Big Daddies. Although his work with the latter eventually resulted in his death, his work allowed scientists to fully condition Big Daddies to protect Little Sisters as they gathered ADAM from dead Splicers - though it was refined by Dr. Gilbert Alexander before it was fully implemented.
Dr. Gilbert Alexander
Dr. Alexander is credited with creating the automatic security system used throughout Rapture and continuing the development of Big Daddies after Dr. Suchong’s death. He further enhanced Big Daddy suits with more weapons that made them better suited for their bodyguard position. His improved bonding system was a significant improvement to Dr. Suchong’s, as it prevented Big Daddies from going berserk after they lost their specific Little Sister.
