This set of two figures from Good Smile Company’s figma line show two brightly colored Inkling girls packing a large arsenal. Both figures are fully articulated, even with articulated eyes that fans can direct their gaze. The first girl features a smirking expression and the second girl has a fang-toothed grin. The tentacle-like hair has a glossy finish to distinguish the squid-like features from the matte humanoid bodies. The removable ink tanks on their backs have a frosted glass effect. They can also wear headphones, a knit cap, or mesh hat gear. Weapon accessories include Splat Dualies, Splattershot, Splat Rollers, and Burst Bombs. Effect accessories include ink streams, splashes, and an ink splatter sheet. All of the accessories are extremely detailed, from minute weapon triggers to mesh shoe texture.

Splatoon 2 Gear Collection Vol. 1 Figures

A total set of four Inklings and four sets of gear are included in this random, surprise box figure set from Bandai. In the set, there are two girl Inklings, with pink and yellow tentacle hair, and two boy Inklings with green and blue tentacle hair. The coordinated gear sets have two headphone themed outfits and two hat themed outfits. The headphone outfits also include blue or yellow mountain coats and purple or red hi-horses. Both the caps are Jellyvader themed and they’re accompanied by hoodies and moccasins. While the outfit color schemes correspond with figure base colors, each component fits with any figure. The customizing possibility means it may take multiple tries to recreate an ideal outfit. The mystery of not knowing the box contents also adds an element of Gacha game excitement.

figma Splatoon Inkling Boy Figure

Following the Inkling Girl, figma now has an accompanying Inkling Boy figure. His standard expression is a cool smirk but a second face plate features a crying, frustrated expression. The eyes also rotate for added pose customization. The high level of articulation can create dynamic battle poses. The relatively simple design of the Inklings themselves has allowed figma sculptors the freedom to focus on extreme accessory detail. The Splattershot has a grooved grip and his t-shirt even features a small, yellow logo tag. The best examples of figma’s attention to detail, though, are the carved design on the sole of the shoes and the beading on his hairband. As a bonus, the accent on the optional retro glasses matches his glossy blue tentacle hair.

Splatoon Series Story

Splatoon is a mainly turf wars style multiplayer third-person shooter game, released in 2015 for the WiiU. However, instead of realistic weapons, the game uses paintballs, rollers, and other means of territory marking. Players take the role of Inklings, humanoid squids, split into two teams of four. The goal is to cover the opponent’s side of the playing field in as much of their team’s ink color as possible within a time limit. Splatoon also features a story-driven Hero Mode in which the player fights to retrieve the Zapfish, an Inkling energy source, from the Octarians. Splatoon 2 is a direct sequel of the first game redesigned for the Nintendo Switch released in 2017. It adds new weapons, a new cooperation mode called Salmon Run, and increased portable and local multiplayer capabilities. A paid DLC expansion, the Octo Expansion, came out in 2018 introducing an 80 level single-player campaign.

Splatoon Series Development

Development for Splatoon began in 2013. Members of the Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development team created an idea of a four-on-four territory game, featuring weaponized ink and squids. Nintendo worried that the squid characters wouldn’t be appealing enough to draw an audience. This led to the squid-human shapeshifting hybrid used today. After the game came out in May 2015, critics praised its innovation in the third-person shooter genre. Nintendo Life ranked the game as one of the “most fun” games of the year. Splatoon 2 came out two years later and received similarly favorable reviews. Since its release, Splatoon characters have appeared in various games and crossover events and spawned merchandise lines from clothing to water guns.
