Spice and Wolf Series Story

Spice and Wolf is a light novel, manga, and anime series. It details a story of adventure in a fantasy world with hints of romance. The plot revolves around Kraft Lawrence as he peddles goods from place to place to make a living. The story is set in a fictional world with a historical setting influenced by Europe. One night when Lawrence is passing through Pasloe, a wolf deity Holo stows away on his wagon to escape from the town. Because the people of Pasloe have forsaken her, Holo wishes to return to Yoitsu, which is her homeland. Lawrence eventually agrees to travel with Holo, and they begin their journey to Yoitsu.

Spice and Wolf was originally released as a light novel series written by Isuna Hasekura with illustrations by Ju Ayakura. The novels were published by ASCII Media Works since 2006 under their Dengeki Bunko imprint. It was later adapted as a manga illustrated by Keito Koume. This work was also published by ASCII Media Works. The anime adaptation of this series was directed by Takeo Takahashi and originally ran from January 9, 2008, until March 26, 2008. The light novel has been very popular among many readers. As of October 2008, over 2.2 million copies of the first nine novels have been sold in Japan.
