OtapediaBlack Panther - Action Figures

Historically, Black Panther failed to see the same level of fame as other Marvel superheroes. Despite the lack of Spider-Man level mainstream success, readers praised the comics for their artful storytelling and complex emotional struggles. Now with the Marvel Cinematic Universe taking over, Black Panther finally earned enough notoriety to land a solo film. Now a new wave of Black Panther fans want to show their appreciation for the hero. The best figures to display love for Black Panther are “Battle Diorama Series Black Panther 1/10 Scale Okoye,” “Nendoroid Avengers Infinity War Black Panther Infinity Edition DX Ver.,” and “ArtFX+ Marvel Universe Black Panther.”

Battle Diorama Series Black Panther 1/10 Scale Okoye Figure

Part of the Iron Studios Battle Diorama Series for the film, this 1/10 scale figure of Okoye is a complete work of art on its own. The figure, sculpted in stunning likeness to actress Danai Gurira, charges down a slope with vibranium spear in hand. Her determined expression and forward-leaning sprint show Okoye’s fully capable and unquestionably dependable side. However, the main highlight of this figure is the clothing. Carving and painting work together to capture every detail, stud, and stitch in both the main armor and leather overlay. The leather overall stands out as technical mastery in all three distinct and palpable textures in her outfit. The tattoo paintwork looks so realistic it appears tattooed on the figure itself. The well-crafted figure did not take away from the equally intricate, yet appropriately understated, plant life on the base.

Avengers Infinity War Black Panther Infinity Edition DX Ver. (Nendoroid) Figure

Black Panther gets well-deserved representation in Good Smile Company’s Avengers: Infinity War Nendoroid series. As a Nendoroid, the most important traits of this Black Panther figure are possible with expressions and accessories. Regarding posing, Black Panther sports a unique double jointed articulated neck for more acrobatic stunts. It also includes multiple interchangeable hand sets, all featuring the Panther suit’s oversized claws. Unmasked, Black Panther’s expressions include a serious face and a shout, fitting for the Infinity War. Masked Black Panther can show just as much emotion through dynamic poses and the use of slashing effect accessories. Most notably, the Nendoroid includes a Wakanda themed battlefield base with miniature Outriders, Border Tribe, and War Machine Mark IV to create the ultimate climactic battle scene.

Marvel Universe Black Panther (ArtFX+) Figure

Kotobukiya delivers another quality Marvel figure in the ArtFX+ series. In this figure, Black Panther wears his full vibranium suit, complete with a silver necklace, panther emblem, and extended claws, as he steps onto a slanted stone. Though a simple color scheme, the selection of a soft, warm-toned gold plays nicely off the matte black of the Panther suit. However, due to the largely monochromatic color scheme, paintwork fails to shine as much as the spectacular sculpting. The nearly skintight suit clings to every angle and muscle. But, little details like the crease in the knee and under the arms serve as a reminder that the vibranium, while tight, is in a fabric form.

Product Name: ArtFX+ Marvel Universe Black Panther
Manufacturer: Kotobukiya
Specifications: Painted, non-articulated, 1/10 scale figure with stand
Materials: PVC (non-phthalate), ABS
Height (Approx.): 170mm | 6.7"

Black Panther Series Story

In the advanced African nation of Wakanda, “The Black Panther” is a hereditary title given to the paramount chief. However, it still must be earned. Wakanda is rich in an extraterrestrial mineral, vibranium. As a result, all chiefs have kept Wakanda’s existence hidden from the outside world out of fear of exploitation. T’Challa loses his father, the current Black Panther, at too young of an age to take the title. His Uncle S’yan successfully passes the Panther trials and rules until T’Challa proves his worth and takes over the title from him. Shortly after taking the mantle, T’Challa as the Black Panther meets and cooperates with other Marvel superheroes around the world. Throughout the series, T’Challa struggles with trying to become the leader his people deserve while balancing Wakanda’s exposure to the world.

Black Panther Series Development

Black Panther debuted in 1966 as a guest appearance in Fantastic Four #52. Stan Lee wished to show more African and African-American characters in comic books, as many of their comic artists were black. Marvel initially hesitated on the risky release of a black superhero comic, leading to Marvel easing his debut with larger guest cover appearances. Until his live-action film debut in Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther remained more of a comic fan’s hero instead of a widespread icon. However, the namesake film of 2018 proved to be one of the most well-received in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Black Panther’s new spike in popularity brings hope that more diverse heroes find representation in media.
