Gintoki Sakata Gintama - Figures

A series as iconic as Gintama depends on an equally as iconic main character. Gintoki Sakata fits the bill with his lazy demeanor, oddball antics, fiery rage, and fierce devotion to his friends. The former samurai has accumulated a large fanbase in the 17 years since Gintama’s debut. His popularity speaks to the large number of figures of him amongst Gintama merchandise. With such a large cast, including many female characters, his dominating presence as a male lead in the stock of available figures sets him apart from similar series. Megahouse’s debonair figure turns Gintoki into the eye candy fans have only dreamed of. While Gintama featured numerous costume gags, an outfit as classy as this well-fitted suit often lost its elegance in the wake of a nose-picking visual. However, in this figure fans get to see Gintoki dressed to the nines in a tailored jacket complete with a pocket square and derby shoes. His true impish personality still shines through with his messy hair and sly smirk. He sits on a silver 3D statue of the kanji “gin” (the first in his name, which also means silver). His legs are crossed with his hands clasped on top of them. The shine on his fingernails shows off the level of high detail that went into painting this figure. As a final touch, the figure includes removable glasses to complete his high-class look.

Gintama Gintoki Sakata (DXF) Figure

This affordable figure from Banpresto shows Gintoki in a wildly fierce attack mode, in promotion for the film Gintama: The Final. Gintoki is shown lunging forward with his wooden katana. His signature blue and white yukata flow behind him mimicking his fluid combat motion. Unlike his usual bored or dumb-founded expressions, this figure shows Gintoki with an aggressive snarl. The tension continues in the carved tendons of his neck and chest. The pose displays as a striking silhouette from all angles, drawing the eye along with Gintoki’s sword.

Gintama Gintoki (Q Posket) Figure

This chibi version of Gintoki from Banpresto’s Q Posket line offers fans the choice of two color schemes: full color and sepia tone. Both versions feature Gintoki in his classic yukata and trusty wooden katana, Bokuto, slung over his shoulder. In cute, chibi fashion, Gintoki’s usually narrow eyes are now larger and rounder, a rarity in Gintoki figures. However, unlike traditional cutesy figures, the Q Posket line retains a linear quality. This allows for a curve in the figure’s posture, giving off Gintoki’s trademark laidback air.

About Gintoki Sakata

Gintoki Sakata is an eccentric, enigmatic ex-samurai living in an unusual version of Edo. In this Edo, aliens called “Amanto” have invaded, essentially ruling the land in an unequal settlement with the shogun. Gintoki’s main concern, however, is something very familiar: making rent. Formerly a highly-skilled samurai, Gintoki is now extremely lazy, wishing to spend his days reading magazines and giving false wisdom to his younger employees. Despite his dumb-founded expressions and slacker tendencies, Gintoki’s past failures continue to haunt him. Occasionally depicted as a coward for comedic relief, Gintoki would easily give his life for his friends. His charisma and laid-back attitude earned him a large found family as well as many fans.

Other Important Gintama Characters

Shinpachi Shimura is a teenage samurai-in-training and member of the Yorozuya. He is often teased for his domestic tendencies to care for others, lack of physical strength, and attachment to his sister, Tae. At the beginning of the series, Amanto debt collectors took Tae in order to make her work in repayment in a flying nightclub. Gintoki helped Shinpachi rescue his sister, allowing his full-time employment at Yorozuya and involvement in Gintoki’s schemes. As the rest of the Yorozuya and friends often act wildly comedic, Shinpachi is known for his “tsukkomi” or “straight man” demeanor.

Kagura is a member of the Amanto Yato tribe known for her super-strength. After the disappearance of her brother and father and the death of her mother, Kagura traveled to Earth in search of a human husband. Upon arrival, Kagura joins a human gang interested in her strength but grows tired of their violence and runs away. While on the run, Gintoki hits her with his motorcycle and Shinpachi convinces him to help her. Kagura’s former gang attacks them and Gintoki saves the group with his samurai skills. Kagura is impressed with Gintoki’s abilities and the bushido way and joins the Yorozuya. She and Gintoki develop a sibling-like relationship over time.
