Game of Thrones Series Story
Game of Thrones is set in the fictional world of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros and the continent of Essos. As the story begins, there is a decade-long summer coming to an end, and winter is looming. Many different simultaneous plotlines occur throughout the story. In the first arc of the story, there is a dynastic conflict between competing claimants who are fighting to claim the Iron Throne. There are many other plot points to be considered throughout the story, but many of them surround the power of the Iron Throne. Many wish to escape from their power, fighting for independence. Others fight to the death in order to attain that power.
Game of Thrones Series Development
Game of Thrones began development with a telephone call in 2006 between David Benioff and George R. R. Martin’s literary agent. Benioff was interested in fantasy fiction but had not read A Song of Ice and Fire. The literary agent sent Benioff copies of the first four books in the series, and he quickly fell in love. He expressed enthusiasm with D. B. Weiss for creating a television series based on the books. Weiss then read the novels himself and the two began their plans to create a television series. They pitched their idea to HBO after meeting with George R. R. Martin himself. Martin had previously been asked by other scriptwriters to allow them to adapt the series. However, he turned them down because they all wanted to make a feature film instead of something more ongoing.
