OtapediaSeraph of the End - Figures

Despite only airing one season, Seraph of the End, or Owari no Seraph, remains a staple of 2010s anime. It’s a show truly of its time, embracing the trend of dark dystopian fiction with mystical elements popularized among contemporaries like Attack on Titan. The concept is simple: humans versus vampires. But over time the series authors have increasingly added more mystery and gray morality to create a much more complex universe. The heroes and villains are all appropriately sleek and cool fitting the dark mood of the franchise. However, a few figure lines have taken these hardened killers and softened them into an adorable chibi style. Three of these chibi Seraph of the End figures are “Pop! Anime: Seraph of the End Yuichiro Hyakuya,” “Dorbz Seraph of the End Vampire Reign Shinoa Hiiragi w/ Weapon,” and “Pop! Anime: Seraph of the End Ferid Bathory.”

Pop! Anime: Seraph of the End Yuichiro Hyakuya Figure

Seraph of the End’s vampire-hunting protagonist, Yuichiro Hyakuya, poses in chibi form in this figure from Funko’s Pop! Anime line. His double-breasted JIDA uniform includes all the lime green accents from his manga and anime designs. This includes the fine line trim on the collar of his standard cape. He wears his katana scabbard on his hip, the brown leather strap slung across his body from the shoulder. His sword is drawn in his right hand at a slight downward angle. The blade is a matte dark charcoal contrasting with a slight shine on his uniform with a bright green accent along the edge. Extra detail on his clothing includes the seam along the sides of his white gloves and small gold eyelets on his boots. His facial detail has been reduced to follow Pop! Anime style. However, his messy disarray of black hair has been carefully sculpted.

Dorbz Seraph of the End Vampire Reign Shinoa Hiiragi w/ Weapon Figure

The Moon Demon Company’s sarcastic and aloof sergeant, Shinoa Hiiragi, shows a rare smile in this specialty series figure from Funko. The figure features a large round head with an almost equally large round body. The only sculpted detail of the stylized depiction is her lilac hair, her fringe falling to the top of her eyes, and magenta bow holding the rest back. In line with the Dorbz style, her eyes are happily painted shut with her eyelashes adorning the top of the line. The round body features a simplified painting of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army uniform with a sailor-style bow and lime green accents. Notably, the figure includes her trademark scythe, a cursed gear possessed by the demon Shikama Doji.

Pop! Anime: Seraph of the End Ferid Bathory

From Funko comes a cute, rounded figure of Seraph of the End’s main antagonist, Ferid Bathory. Ferid stands with his hand on his hips and right leg turned out. The red bow around his neck flows to the side on top of his neck ruffle. His noble-inspired white coat and suit are sculpted with impressive detail for the simplified Funko design. The small ruffles on the edge of his sleeves stand out against the black sailor-style cuffs. His black thigh-high boots have been sculpted to show the natural creases and folds of his joints. The series of gold buttons along the side is included as an additional detail. His silvery ponytail sways behind his head, tied with a simple black ribbon. His vampiric ears notably poke out from behind his side-swept bangs and forelocks.

Seraph of the End Series Story

In 2012, all of humanity was brought to an end thanks to a human-made virus. The only survivors are children under the age of thirteen. In the wake of the virus, vampires emerge from the underworld, violently overtaking the ravaged remains of society. These vampires offer “protection” to their new subjects in exchange for drinking their blood. One of the surviving children is twelve-year-old Yuichiro. Yuichiro and the rest of the children at Hyakuya Orphanage plan an escape from their vampire captors, resulting in many deaths, including Yuichiro’s best friend Mikaela. Mikaela’s sacrifice allows Yuichiro to escape and he’s found by the Vampire exterminating unit of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, the Moon Demon Company. Four years later, Yuichiro wants to avenge his fallen family by exterminating vampires unaware that his friend Mikaela has survived as one of them.
