Valga Cromwell was a key figure in the Demi Human war but is currently known as Old Man Rom or much more commonly just simply Rom. His hunched posture belies his large build and stature of a giant, though he still easily towers over most people that he meets. He is bald with bushy white eyebrows that almost frame his face and has blue eyes. He has a number of tattoos or markings on his hands, sides, and head. Rom also has a couple of scars on his arms and he tends to wear tattered and loose fitting clothing.
In his youth he was much leaner in build, had more hair, and wore black pants, a red cape, bone bracelets, and a bone necklace. While he once held immense hatred for humans, he is a lot more mellow now though he remains quite boisterous.
History
Rom was born as a slave to a noble. He grew up in servitude but was saved and freed by Libre Fermi. He then participated in the Demi Human war where he served as the Demi Human Alliance's Chief Staff Officer. During the war he fought against a young Wilhelm at Lugnica castle and lost. Despite losing the war, Rom surived and later became the owner of the Stolen Goods Warehouse in the capital city slums.
At some point he finds a very young Felt and effectively adopts her, raising her as his own daughter. As she grew up, she often relied on him for advice and Rom is known to act as an appraiser for her. At the onset of the story, Felt would bring a stolen insignia to him for that exact purpose. Subaru intercepts her and offers his cellphone which Rom mistakes for a Metia. The negotiations are interrupted when Emilia finds the trio and demands her insignia back. The situation quickly deteriorates even further as a hidden Elsa attempts to kill Emilia.
Elsa and Emilia face off with Emilia initially looking to come out on top due to her magic and the assistance of Puck. However, the sun began to set and Puck was forced to retreat to rest as per his contract. Seeing the shift in the balance of power, Rom quickly jumps into the fray with a massive spiked club and supports Emilia. Unfortunately, even his formidable brawn is no match for Elsa the Bowel Hunter. He is quickly sustains a mortal injury and goes down, though Subaru is later able to use Rom's dropped spike club to defend himself. Once Reinhard intervenes, Emilia is able to stabilize Rom and save his life.
He would eventually awake alive and well although most of his Warehouse is destroyed and Felt is nowhere to be seen. He searches for her for a time, but it would take accidentally running into Subaru once more before he is told that Reinhard had taken custody of the young thief. Rom mounts a 'rescue operation' and interrupts the Royal Selection ceremony. He infiltrates the palace, sets off a smoke bomb, and attempts to abscond with a struggling Felt. Reinhard disperses the smoke with a swing of his sword and the guards pin down the giant. This prompts Felt to accept her status as Royal Candidate and potential 42nd King of Lugnica in order to save his life. He remains on her side and in her political camp from then on.
Relationships
Libre Fermi - Libre freed Rom from slavery and brought the young giant into the Demi Human Alliance. Rom considers Libre a parental figure.
Doltero Amule - Doltero is a pig human who is the head of the Black Silver Coin organization and who likely met Rom during the Demi Human War.
Felt - Felt is affectively Rom's adopted daughter. He cares a great deal for her and didn't hesitate to put his own life in danger to retrieve her from royalty after she was taken by Reinhard.
Emilia - Emilia stabilized and healed him after he was mortally injured by Elsa.
Elsa Granhiert - Assassin from Gusteko, Elsa kills Rom in multiple timelines.
Natsuki Subaru - Subaru told Rom what happened after the fight with Elsa and that Reinhard had taken custody of Felt.
