OtapediaPleiades Watchtower - Re:Zero

The Pleiades Watchtower was created by the Sage Flugel centuries before the start of the story. It serves many purposes, but its most important one is to sit over the Evil Sealing Stone Shrine that keeps Satella sealed away. As such, the current guardian and custodian of the tower Shaula dispatches and discourages most of the people who attempt to visit it using deadly force. On top of that, the tower is also a great library with vast amounts of knowledge recorded in it and the moment an individual steps into the tower, they are locked into a series of examinations or trials in order to gain access to the various libraries spread across its floors.
The Pleiades Watchtower exists within the Augria (Auguria) Sand Dunes which itself is located within the Kingdom of Lugnica. This location serves as the primary backdrop for the events that take place in Arc 6 and as such most of the information here is not yet finalized as this has only been depicted in the technically non-canonical web novel. Even in that form, the story of this arc has yet to be concluded.

Appearance

From the Sand Dunes and beyond a defense mechanism known as Sand Time, the tower appears merely as a silhouette that never changes in position, shape, or form no matter how close or far you travel from it. Those who make it past the Sand Time mechanism find themselves in a flower meadow filled with Oiranguma Demon Beasts. From here, the actual facade of the tower can be seen. It is a circular stone tower a couple of hundred meters tall with a balcony that juts out from one of the floors. There is also a huge door at the base of the tower that leads to the inside.

Tower Floors

The Pleiades Watchtower consists of multiple floors each with their own name and unique design. Every floor is named after the seven sisters of the Pleiades from mythology.

Asterope

While known as the sixth floor, this is actually the basement of the Pleiades Watchtower. This floor is a circular room with a spacious 200 to 300 meter radius. It's walls are white and the room is illuminated using magical lamps and luminous moss. The passage up to Celaeno is a spiral staircase on the outer edges of the room.

Celaeno

Celaeno is the fifth and ground floor of the Pleiades Watchtower. The aforementioned giant door on the base of the tower leads into this floor which is a giant hall devoid of distinguishing features. The door itself reacts to a mechanical opening system that is operated by touch. A large spiral staircase leads up to Alycone and down to Asterope.

Alcyone

Alcyone the fourth floor is the first floor up from the ground of the Pleiades Watchtower. It is composed of a multitude of rooms including Shaula's living quarters and a dining hall with drinkable water from a well. It also houses a special room known as the Green Room where a spirit bestows healing to everyone within it. This floor also leads to the balcony that can be seen from the outside which Shaula uses to survey the surrounds. There are three ways out of this floor: the spiral staircase that leads down to Celaeno, a staircase up to Taygeta, and another staircase up to Electra.

Taygeta

Taygeta the third floor is two floors above ground level. This floor features a trial. When initially entering the area, the floor is simply a fully white room with a single monolith in it. Touching the monolith activates the trial wherein the room becomes populated with a series of monoliths that represents stars and their constellations. The challenge is to touch the brightest of the hero destroyed by Shaula. The correct answer relies on knowledge from another world (as these constellations are from our world and do not exist there) and is in fact to touch the monolith that represents the star Rigel. Successfully completing the trial transforms the barren white room into the Taygeta library which contains books of the dead and can lead to the Hall of Memories. The only exit from this level is the stairs down to Alcyone.

Electra

Electra the second floor is three floors up from the ground. Initially entering the floor shows a sword in the middle of the room. Touching it begins the second trial of the Watchtower where Reid Astrea materializes. Reid has to be forced to yield a step during combat. Electra is accessed directly from Alcyone via a staircase and has a staircase leading up to Maia if the trial is completed.

Maia

Maia, the first floor and four floors up from the ground of the Pleiades Watchtower is the very top of the tower. Volcanica administers the final trial here and is accessed by staircase from Electra.

Merope

Merope known as floor zero's existence was initially hidden by Shaula and even when discovered she refused to offer any information about it.

Underneath the Tower

There is a system of tunnels and caves beneath the Pleiades Watchtower which is home to Gabaou Demon Beasts and polluted by strong miasma. There is a door which acts as the source of the miasma adorned with seven jewels. Shaula refers to something called the Sand Shrine in the area.

Rules and Trials

Emilia noted that there were similarities between the trials of the Pleiades Watchtower and those at the Sanctuary Barrier in the Graveyard of the Witch of Greed which implies some relation to the Witch of Greed herelf, Echidna.
In addition to the trials, there are five rules to the tower which must be obeyed lest Shaula herself transforms into her scorpion form and enters a killing frenzy to eliminate everyone. The rules are as follows:

  • It is forbidden to leave the tower without completing the trials
  • It is forbidden to violate the rules of the trials
  • It is forbidden to disrespect the libraries
  • It is forbidden to damage the tower
  • It is not forbidden to destroy the trials
