Ending Theme
The ending theme for the first cour of the series is titled "STYX HELIX". It is written, arranged, and performed by MYTH & ROID. The CD for the single was released on May 25th, 2016 and it also included an instrumental version of the song as well as "STRAIGHT BET" and an instrumental version of "STRAIGHT BET".
"STYX HELIX" Meaning
The song tells about Subaru's memories of Emilia's deaths, of singling himself out, contrasting his new attachment to Emilia with the loneliness of each time loop he goes through, and about the restarts being his way forward.
Episode 7 Ending Theme
Episode 7's ending theme of the Re:Zero anime season 1 was "STRAIGHT BET" also performed by MYTH & ROID. This is a special insert that plays over scenes of Subaru coming to terms with the consequences of his inaction. In seeking to survive his previous deaths no matter the cost, Rem winds up dead. Unable to say anything about his Return by Death ability, he flees the mansion. Bereft by guilt and grief, he is cornered by Beatrice and Ram. Ram tries to force answers out of him while Beatrice defends him. Before the two can come to blows, Subaru decides to do everything in his power to prevent Rem's death and jumps off the cliff to his death.
"STRAIGHT BET" Meaning
This song talks about a risk and a gamble, being willing to bet your life for love. In the context of the story, it ties into Subaru once more taking his life into his own hands again and deciding that he can't just run away from his deaths at the Mathers mansion. After finding his conviction and motivated by Rem dying in his place, he decides to challenge fate and kill himself in order to undo this future. He is not even sure if he will Return by Death again (as he only returned four times while in the capital), but for the sake of those around him, Subaru puts everything on the line.
Further Information
More information about MYTH & ROID is detailed on the second cour's theme page as they also performed the second opening of the series.
