OtapediaAttack on Titan Tactics - Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan Tactics is a mobile phone game based on the first season of the Attack on Titan anime series directed by Tetsuro Araki and produced by Wit Studio. Likewise, the anime series is an adaptation of the Attack on Titan manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. Both the author and Kodansha, the magazine where the manga is published, owns the copyright of this mobile game. Attack on Titan Tactics is developed by KAYAC and distributed by DeNA Co., Ltd. The game is free-to-play and is available for both iPhone and Android devices.

Development

On April 18th, 2019, Attack on Titan Tactics was released for both iPhone and Android devices. Later that same day, Crunchyroll announced that it was bringing Attack on Titan Tactics to the West through a new partnership. Pre-registration for the game started shortly after, though the game did not officially launch outside of Japan until September 19th later that year. Updates for the game are routinely released for the game. Content in these updates can range from simple bug fixes to new events and characters. Holidays like Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine’s Day often receive special rewards and characters with alternate costumes for players to enjoy. The game also celebrates the birthdays of various characters, which results in players getting extra bonuses. News regarding updates for the game can be found on the Attack on Titan Tactics’ official Twitter page.

Game Features

This real-time strategy mobile game allows players to deploy a variety of characters to fight battles against Titans. There are over fifty individual characters for players to obtain, each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and special abilities. The story of the game itself is based on the first season, but includes new stories, art, and voice lines from the original voice actors and actresses from the anime.

Story

The story of the game is largely the same as the first season of the anime series. All remaining known humans in the world live peacefully within several walls that are 50 meters tall. Outside of the walls, Titans roam and attempt to break into their city and devour any human they come across. For 100 years, the walls did well to protect its people, until one day where the Colossal Titan became the first Titan tall enough to peer above the outermost wall. A young boy named Eren Jaeger had dreamed about going beyond the Walls and exploring the outside world, but has his dreams turned upside down when Titans from the outside burst through the Walls for the first time. From that day forward, Eren vows to rid the world of all Titans, not realizing that he himself can turn into a Titan as well.

Characters

  • Eren Jaeger (voiced by Yuki Kaji): He is a young boy who dreams of going to the outside world someday. After seeing his own mother brutally devoured by a Titan with his own eyes, he decided to join the 104th Training Corps to seek revenge on the Titans. His incredible desire for the destruction of the Titans often leads him into trouble.

  • Mikasa Ackermann (voiced by Yui Ishikawa): She is the adopted sister of Eren after he saved her from being murdered along with her family. She continues living only to protect Eren. To this day, she continues to wear the red scarf that Eren gave her after he rescued her.

  • Armin Arlelt (voiced by Marina Inoue): He is the best friend of Eren and Mikasa. He is a smart and timid boy, but is also the one who first taught Eren about the outside world. He ends up joining the Survey Corps along with Eren and Mikasa, despite being considerably weaker than both of them.

  • Levi Ackermann (voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya): The Captain of the Special Operations Squad of the Survey Corps. He is seen as the strongest soldier of all mankind.

  • Erwin Smith (voiced by Daisuke Ono): The Commander of the Survey Corps. He is a ruthless leader that is also highly respected by his subordinates.

Gameplay

Attack on Titan Tactics plays similarly to many other real-time strategy games, where a player is faced with waves of enemies and must defeat them using a team of characters that each have their own abilities and statistics. Titans make their way toward a wall in an attempt to destroy it. The player’s goal is to defeat all of the Titans before they can destroy the wall before a given amount of time passes. During a wave, the player can choose to deploy a character or weapon at any time, assuming they are not already deployed or on a cooldown timer. Once all of the Titans are eliminated, the wave is completed and the player wins.

Platforms

This mobile game is available on both Android and iPhone devices through the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store respectively. For Android devices, the game requires a version of the operating system that is based on Android 5.0 at the very least. For iPhones, iOS 10 is the oldest version of operating system that is recommended.
