Clash of the Titans Arc - Attack on Titan
The Clash of the Titans Arc is the fifth story arc of the Attack on Titan series created, written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. Within the manga, the Clash of the Titans Arc includes from Chapter 35 to Chapter 50, and in the TV-based anime series, this arc is spanned over Episode 26 to Episode 37. This arc follows The Female Titan Arc.
Summary
The story of this Arc explains how a group of Titans had appeared within the Walls due to a possible breach of Wall Rose. The members of the 104th Training Corps will suddenly have to fight against the Titans and the battle will be a bloody and extremely violent one. However, these won’t be the only unexpected events that they will have to deal with. Another danger lies within the members of the group. Thus, Eren Jaeger, along with the others, will find themselves involved in a decisive battle.
Plot
The Titans appeared within the Rose Wall and the members of the Survey Corps evaluate the possible existence of a breach. The order of evacuation of the nearby towns will be a mission that will affect the 104th Training corps cadets, while Mike Zacharius tries to make time eliminating some Titans along the way. When Mike plans his retirement, an ape-like giant appears, attacking him and taking his Three Dimensional Maneuver equipement, which stops him from escaping and causes a fatal ending.
Meanwhile,some members of the 104th Training Corps like Ymir Fritz, Krista Lenz and Connie Springer arrive at Utgard Castle after passing through Ragako. However, the castle is quick to be plagued with Titans. At the same time, two crews that were examining the Wall meet and report the absence of any breach. Therefore, they try to figure out how the Titans had managed to appear inside the Wall. Simultaneously, in Trost District, Eren Jaeger, Armin Arlelt, Mikasa Ackermann, Levi Ackermann, Hange Zoe and Pastor Nick decide to go to Utgard Castle.
The Titans end up invading the castle despite the lack of sunlight. They seem to be led by this ape-like Beast Titan. This unfortunate inconvenience forces the soldiers to defend the tower. As a last option against the attacks, Ymir reveals her Jaw Titan form and she manages to kill several Titans. Nevertheless, the amount of Titans is such that is still not enough. But when the Jaw Titan seem to be on the verge of death, she is saved by the reinforcements of the Survey Corps, among which were Eren and Mikasa, who eliminate the Titans and help Ymir and the rest to escape to the top of the Walls. There it is decided that the members return to Trost to judge Ymir. However, before embarking on that journey, Reiner reveals his true identity alongside Bertolt: the Armored Titan and the Colossal Titan, respectively.
A battle between Eren and Reiner begins in their Titan forms, while Bertolt, also transformed, confronts Hange’s squad and snatches them from Ymir. Eventually, both Reiner and Bertolt triumphs and escapes taking Ymir and Eren with them. Then, the Survey Corps, along with the Garrison Regiment and the Military Police Brigade, try to chase them to take Eren back. Erwin takes advantage of being followed by the mindless Titans that are also trying to eat them and try to attract them to Reiner and Bertolt. This strategy costs the lives of several soldiers, including Hannes, but they manage to rescue Eren, who, consumed by anger, unleashes a new power with which he seems to be able to control the Titans. Ymir says goodbye to Krista to leave with Reiner and Bertolt, and the soldiers return to the Walls.
