OtapediaPS4 Games - Attack on Titan

Currently, the Attack on Titan Franchise has one game title released for the Sony PlayStation 4. It is the sequel game to the first Attack on Titan game that was released on the PlayStation 3.

Attack on Titan 2

‘Attack on Titan 2’ is the second game of the popular Japanese manga series Attack on Titan. It is a sequel of the first game as the story expands a little further than the previous game. The developer Omega Force successfully adapted the battles from the manga and anime series into a video game form. Attack on Titan 2 builds upon the foundation of acrobatic combat with a much improved interface and new tricks when fighting the Titans such as slicing the neck of a Titan.

With its first game in 2016, Attack on Titan 2 was released on March 15, 2018 in Japan and on March 20, 2018, worldwide. The game was also released on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows and Stadia.

Plot

Even though this game is a sequel of the first game, it does not pick up from where the last game left off with. Instead, the story mode is a 80% retelling of Season 1 of the anime (same as the first game) and 20% of Season 2. The game covers the plot of the first 50 chapters of Attack on Titan manga and the arcs included are; Fall of Shiganshina arc, Battle of Trost District arc, 104th Training Corps arc, The Female Titan arc and Clash of Titan arc. However, the big difference between the first and second game is that this time the story is framed through a perspective of an original character. An original character that the player can create to use to interact with the characters in the game.

New Features

New to Attack on Titan 2 is the ability for the player to use sneak attacks that instantly kill or at least severely damage a Titan from a great distance away. With a risk of making the Titan more difficult to kill, it adds a great risk/reward element in the combat.

The game also adds a layer of strategy to the gameplay by letting the player establish a variety of bases on the map, each with their own specific use. Smart management of these bases can come in very handy during the later battles or attacks from numerous Titans.

While the player cannot directly control any of the other original characters in story mode, the player can recruit them to the squad and use their special abilities in combat. In order to play as the original characters from the series, the player must play in a mode called ‘Another Mode’.

Online Modes

  • Co-op Play - There is also a two player online co-op where players can take on missions cooperatively in Story Mode and Scout Missions with friends or players worldwide.

  • Annihilation Mode - An online competitive mode. It is a team battle of up to 4 vs 4 and the two teams compete with each other to see who kills more Titans and earn the highest points within a set time limit.

  • Predator Mode - The player controls a Titan and scores points by attacking humans or destroying buildings.

  • Expulsion Mode - Battle Royal style competitive mode where a maximum of 6 players compete with each other to get the highest points by taking out Titans. Players cannot directly attack each other, however, can steal opportunities to eliminate a Titan or obstruct other players by using items.

  • Showdown Mode - A 1 vs 1 battle where each player is assigned a team of Titans and the opposing player must subjugate to cause damage. Reduce the opposing players health to 0 or the player with a higher health at the end wins the game.

Playable Characters

There are over 40 playable characters.
