Attack on Titan INSIDE Kou (進撃の巨人 INSIDE 抗 Shingeki no Kyojin INSIDE Kou) is the first official guide book of the Attack on Titan series. It was published in August 2013 in Japanese. This guidebook contains 192 pages, divided in 5 parts and it includes exclusive interviews with Hajime Isayama, the editor of the series and the staff of the anime version. In addition, the guidebook contains a variety of concept art from behind the scenes of both the anime and the manga, including 16 pages in full color.

The guidebook has a detailed guide to all the characters in the story included, with some additional new, original art by Isayama including a 54-page, never-before-seen Attack on Titan pilot manga. As a bonus, the guidebook comes with a papercraft kit for readers to create their own Colossal Titan head.

Character Encyclopedia Part 1

Part 1 of the Character Encyclopedia is made up of page 5 to page 40 and explains in detail the most important information about the characters that belong to the 104th Training Corps. The characters are introduced in the following order.

Part 2 is made up of the pages between page 41 and page 46. This section goes into further detail about the members of the Garrison Regiment. The characters are introduced in the following order.

Part 5 is the last of the Encyclopedia, and includes page 71 to page 189. In this section there is more information on several secondary characters that are very significant to the Attack on Titan storyline. The characters are introduced in the following order.

In addition to the 5 parts there are also additional comments on the tools and weapons used by the characters, like the Vertical Maneuvering Equipment, cannonballs, horses, firearms, and many others. After the character profiles, there is a section that focuses on all the Titans seen in the story, like the Colossal Titan, the Armored Titan, the Female Titan, the Beast Titan, as well as an explanation of the mindless Titans.

8 Acts

In conjunction with the character and Titan profiles of the series, the Encyclopedia also focuses on some of the crucial events of the story, in a separate guide made up of “8 Acts”.
Here is a brief outline.

  • Act 1: The attack of the Colossal Titan, and how Eren transformed into Titan when he was devoured.

  • Act 2: How Eren kills the Titans and how his teammates “used” him to be released from the Titans that were around.

  • Act 3: Eren covered the Wall of the Trost District and gave humanity its first victory, mentioning also the amount of sacrifices and the will of Eren to keep conscious and in control of the Titan to be able to cover the wall.

  • Act 4: What happened after Eren covered the Wall. Soldiers identified and burned bodies.

  • Act 5: Ssummarizes what happened in the trial of Eren Jaeger, the discussions of all citizens of the Trost District about the situation in which his “savior” was.

  • Act 6: The Female Titan made its appearance and killed many soldiers (including Levi’s Squad)

  • Act 7: Explains how Annie reveals herself to be the Female Titan in the Stohess District tunnel, and how Eren had to be forced to fight with her despite not wanting to do it at the beginning.

  • Act 8: How the Beast Titan climbs the wall while several soldiers of the Survey Corps were at Utgard Castle.

Last Section

At the end of the Encyclopedia , there is a guide to some of the tactics used by Attack on Titan characters, a brief history of humanity’s resistance, a situation report on the state of humanity, a Character Popularity Survey and some colored covers and images, along the main voice characters of the series: Yuki Kaji, Yui Ishikawa and Marina Inoue.
