Jaw Titan - Attack on Titan
The Jaw Titan is one of the Nine Titans in the Attack on Titan franchise with ferociously powerful jaws and also vicious nails. It is also known as the fastest and swiftest Titan due to its small and agile size. It is currently in the possession of Falco Grice. In the manga, it appeared for the first time at the end of Chapter 40. As for the anime series, the Jaw Titan made its first appearance in episode 29.
Abilities
Its small size provides the Jaw Titan a great agility and speed. It can move fast enough to catch any other of the Titans if they are off guard. So even though the Jaw Titan is small and a bit weaker than other titans, its ability to move quickly stands out in areas like the Titan Forests and gives it a great advantage.
In addition, as its name implies, the Jaw Titan has an incredible strength in its jaws and nails, which allows it to bit and crush efficiently Titans and any man-made structures, as it can be seen in Chapters 41 and 92 of the manga. Such jaws have proved to be strong enough even to chew the hardened Titan armor of Eren Jaeger and the crystal shell around the War Hammer Titan, something that other supposedly more stronger Titans were unable to do.
Origins
The Jaw Titan, as well as all the Nine Titans, appeared after the death of Ymir Fritz. 1,700 years after her death, one or several of the quarreled Eldian houses that were subservient to the Founding Titan were the ones that possessed the Jaw Titan. After seventeen centuries, Karl Fritz, King of the Fritz family, decided to abandon the confrontations of Eldia and moved to Paradis Island. As it can be seen in chapter 86, after relocating to Paradis Island, the nation of Marley took the Jaw Titan during the Great Titan War.
In 843 approximately, Marcel Galliard, a Marleyan soldier, was chosen to hold the Jaw Titan and use its abilities to help Marley in the constant wars that this nation was with Eldia. A couple of years later, in 845, the nation of Marley sent out Marcel, Reiner Braun, Bertolt Hoover and Annie Leonhart to Paradis Island, in order to start the Paradis Island Operation.
Nevertheless, before the attack on Shiganshina District a Titan approached Reiner and almost grasped him. Luckily for Reiner, Marcel saved him and moved him away to be safe, but Marcel was caught in Reiner’s place and he was eaten instead. During Chapter 39, Reiner and the others could escape from this Titan and keep going with the mission entrusted to them.
Once this Titan consumed Marcel, it inherited Marcel’s Jaw power and could regain its human form: a young Eldian girl called Ymir. In Chapter 47, she claimed that, until that moment, she had been wandering as a Pure Titan for around sixty years.
In order to start a new life for herself, Ymir began living as a thief in the cities inside the Wall.
At some point, she overheard the story about “Krista Lenz” from some members of the Church of the Walls. For political and personal reasons, she wanted to meet Krista. So she decided to join the 104th Training Corps, in the same year as Krista, as it can be seen in Chapter 40.
During their training, Ymir and Krista had to escort a trainee that was seriously injured to protect him from the harsh winter climate conditions. However, they faced more difficulties than expected. Responding only to her feelings towards Krista, Ymir tried to protect her and to send her to a shelter. Then, Ymir used her Jaw Titan powers to take her fellow trainee to a safest place. When Krista wondered how Ymir could arrive before her to the refugee, she agreed to tell her secret to Krista. There was only one condition: once everyone knew about her Titan’s powers, Krista had to go back to living under her true name.
After Ymir, Marcel’s brother, Porco, took over this power. In his Titan form, Porco was very close to taking over Eren Jaeger and his Attack Titan form, when he nearly ripped out his [Attack Titan]’s nape and swallowing him.
In more recent events, Zeke awoke all the Titan blood within the citizens of Marley that had consumed his spinal fluid. One of those victims was Falco, who became a Pure Titan himself and ate Porco. After inheriting the Jaw Titan’s powers, he went back to normality.
Unfortunately for Falco, he still does not know that he killed his brother Colt by transforming and that Connie wants his mother to eat him to regain her human form.
Falco, who was sentenced to death as a mindless Titan, received a new opportunity and will now have this power that will give him 13 more years of life and the responsibility of joining a side in the war that develops between Marley and Paradis Island.
In the current events of the manga, Connie has taken Falco and they both go to Ragako, which is the hometown of Connie. Previously, the Beast Titan had transformed the inhabitants of Ragako into Pure Titans. Therefore, Connie’s goal is her mother to eat Falco and, thus, allow her to return to her human form. However, Falco does not suspect anything about Connie’s plans and he thinks that he is trying to help him.
