Tetsuro Kuroo Haikyu!! - Nendoroid

The immensely popular sports manga, Haikyu!!, spurned several screen and stage adaptations. Its resonance with fans came from its compelling characters. Fan adoration of these characters led to booming merchandise sales spanning everything from files folders and keychains to plush toys and figures. One of the series' biggest characters, Tetsuro Kuroo, has found his way into the majority of Haikyu!!'s collectible and promotional materials. His long-awaited Nendoroid figure, "Nendoroid Haikyu!! Karasuno High vs. Shiratorizawa Academy Tetsuro Kuroo (Re-run)," even earned a re-release in 2021.

Nekoma's scheming captain looks deceptively adorable in this chibi figure from Good Smile Company. Kuroo wears his red Nekoma uniform with a black collar and accents. The figure also comes with an alternate body part to show him wearing his team jacket draped over his shoulders. Three faceplates depict Kuroo with a neutral expression, his sleazy smile, and a deranged grin. Arm and leg parts allow fans to pose Kuroo in countless action scenes from the anime. Additional accessories include a volleyball, a court-style base, and a calico cat.

About Tetsuro Kuroo

Tetsuro Kuroo is a third year at Nekoma High School and the volleyball's team captain. He is a skilled middle blocker known for his cunning, provocative nature. He's been playing volleyball with his best friend, Kenma Kozume, since elementary school.

About Tetsuro Kuroo: Background

Known as the "scheming captain," Kuroo cultivated a reputation around his ability to read people. Almost instantly, Kuroo can taunt any opponent with a snide remark. Upon meeting Daichi Sawamura, the Karasuno captain immediately felt Kuroo's dual nature. However, Kuroo also possesses a genuine and kind personality. He places all of his faith in his teammates and sees the potential in others.

As a child, Kuroo found himself playing volleyball. He dragged Kenma along with him, sharing his growing passion for the sport. Kenma still struggled to connect with others, especially after joining the Nekoma team. Kuroo pushed him to stick with it, seeing the untapped potential in Kenma's strong analytical skills. As captain, Kuroo wants to have the first official match between Nekoma and Karasuno on the national stage.

About Tetsuro Kuroo: Abilities

Kuroo is a blocking expert known for his ability to pressure his opponents. The key to his successful blocking lies in his mastery of posture and timing. Kuroo watches the spiker and times his jump so his block sets up as the ball gets spiked downward. This method allows him to shut out very powerful spikers, like Kotaro Bokuto. His solid blocking skills also qualify him to teach other middle blockers, such as Lev Haiba, Kei Tsukishima, and Shoyo Hinata.

In addition to blocking, Kuroo is one of the only two members of Nekoma capable of doing a jump serve. While middle blockers usually switch out on the backline for the libero, Kuroo is capable of backline defense. His receiving skills are top-level, fitting the Nekoma play style of strong receives and keeping the ball in play.

Kuroo's greatest relationships center on the Nekoma team. Given Nekoma's rivalry with Karasuno, their presence in the story serves as both a threat and motivation.

Kenma Kozume

Kenma Kozume is a second year at Nekoma High School and the starting setter on the volleyball team. Not very athletic, Kenma lacks the same passion many of the players in the series possess. Instead, he prefers video games and other solitary activities. Kenma only started playing volleyball to spend time with his friend and neighbor, Kuroo.

Despite their opposite personalities, Kuroo and Kenma spend most of their time on and off the court together. Kuroo fully believes in Kenma's volleyball abilities. He respects Kenma's detached analysis and almost devious playmaking style. Kuroo calls Kenma the "heart and brain" of Nekoma. Without Kenma's decision-making and observations, Nekoma would lack a way to weaponize their solid play style.

Nekoma High School

Nekoma High School is a public high school in Haikyu!! located in the Tokyo metropolitan area. The volleyball team specializes in endurance, flexibility, and prolonging the rally by keeping the ball in play. For this reason, they are known as "the cats," alluding to the "neko" in the school name.

Nekoma is the "destined rival" of Karasuno High School. Their rivalry began decades before the series started. Former students Yasufumi Nekomata and Ikkei Ukai vowed to challenge each other in an official match. After ending high school without fulfilling this promise, the two became coaches of their former schools to continue their challenge. Ukai was forced into retirement before the two had a chance to meet at a National match.
