Tadashi Yamaguchi Haikyuu!! - Figures

The Haikyuu!! franchise began as a serialized manga that was first published in Weekly Shonen Jump in early 2012 to 2020, culminating a total of 402 chapters and forty-five tankobon volumes. As the manga series continued to gain readership, an anime adaptation of the manga produced by Production I.G. was announced and eventually aired in April 2014. As of early 2021, Haikyuu!! has received four seasons of its anime adaptation, with the most recent completing its original run in December 2020.

Both the manga and its anime adaptation proved to be rather successful among their respective audiences, eventually leading to fans creating an impressive demand for merchandise inspired by characters from the series. This is especially true for collectible figures, which recreate fan-favorite characters as physical, three-dimensional statues. One such character is Tadashi Yamaguchi, Karasuno’s pinch setter. Out of the small handful of figures of this particular character that are available for purchase some of the most popular include the “Nendoroid Haikyu!! Nendoroid Haikyu!! Season 3 Tadashi Yamaguchi Figure

This figure comes from the incredibly popular Nendoroid line of figures produced by Orange Rouge, a collaborative brand between Good Smile Company and Max Factory that specializes in creating figures of male characters. Like most other Nendoroid figures, this figure of Tadashi has a rather large head and tiny body, resulting in a design with chibi-style features. Other features like articulated limbs and a variety of extra parts let its user move the figure into many different poses to recreate iconic scenes from the series. Some of the extra parts in this figure include several facial expression plates, a volleyball, and a carton of french fries, his favorite snack.

Chibi Kyun Chara Haikyu!! The Road to Tokyo Vol. 1 Figure

This set of chibi-style figures features three of the first-year members of Karasuno’s volleyball team: Shoyo Hinata, Kei Tsukishima, and Tadashi Yamaguchi. Each figure can be purchased individually, or as a complete three figure set. Although these figures are fairly small, they each have a unique pose that showcases the personality of each character quite well. Shoyo is seen sitting on his knees with a serious, determined expression on his face, while Kei casually sits cross-legged as he glares at something with an annoyed look. Tadashi, on the other hand, leans forward in excitement and is unable to hide his eagerness for whatever lies ahead.

About Tadashi Yamaguchi

Tadashi is a first-year member of Karasuno High School’s volleyball team and acts as a middle blocker and a pinch server. Here is a brief background of his character.

Background

As a child, Tadashi was often teased by others for having freckles and being generally weak compared to his peers. He eventually came to be close friends with Kei Tsukishima after Kei chased off a group of bullies pestering Tadashi at a park. Although Tadashi had always wanted to join a sports club in school, he had felt intimidated by those that played soccer or basketball, so he ended up deciding on volleyball. Tadashi is generally considered to be quite shy and weak-willed at times, though as he continues to gain more experience playing volleyball, he becomes more confident in himself.

Special Abilities

Although he lacks in power, speed, and stamina, Tadashi’s greatest strength is his jump float serve, which is an incredibly difficult serve for opponents to receive. Due to his lacking physique, he was made the team’s pinch hitter to allow his serves to be in tip-top shape when they need him most. As time went on, Tadashi improved this serve, even more, resulting in Karasuno scoring crucial points against some of the most prestigious schools.

Other Important Haikyuu!! Characters

Although Tadashi generally gets along with all of his fellow teammates like Daichi Sawamura and Tobio Kageyama, he is especially close with Kei Tsukishima and Shoyo Hinata.

Kei Tsukishima

Kei Tsukishima is Karasuno’s middle blocker and is known for his tall stature and his ability to read opponents and block them accordingly. Although he was incredibly passionate about volleyball when he was younger, he lost most of his love for volleyball after learning that his older brother had lied to him about playing on Karasuno’s team. As an elementary student, he came across Tadashi being bullied by a group of children, to which Kei responded with “pathetic”. Although this response applied to Tadashi as well, he admired Kei’s ability to brush off the bullies so easily, eventually resulting in the two becoming friends.

Shoyo Hinata

When Tadashi and Shoyo first met, Tadashi often teased Shoyo as Kei did, but as the two got to know each other, they become good friends and even rely on each other as Tadashi did with Shoyo when he couldn’t get through to Kei during the summer training camp.
