Monokuma Danganronpa - Nendoroid

On the 4th of July 2013, the Danganronpa anime was released. It is a crime and action genre where students are locked inside a building and are forced to kill each other to escape. The students are stuck in despair due to the actions of the villain known as Monokuma. Monokuma doesn't reveal his true identity and is in the form of a half black and half white bear. He is a very classic crazy and evil character that loves seeing the despair in his victim’s expression. He loves killing and would often describe gruesome acts and takes pleasure in it. He is everyone’s favorite crazy villain and has a lot of popularity. The design of Monokuma is a cute bear gaining much love and fans and there have been a lot of products released of his design. One of the popular products would be the “Nendoroid Monokuma”, which is a Nendoroid figure that shows off the adorable figure of Monokuma to the max.

Nendoroid Monokuma

The Monokuma Nendoroid shows him in his cute and scary glory. He is perfectly split in the middle with his right side being painted white and his left side being painted black. His mouth and stomach haven't been split in color and are both white with his nose being black. Monokuma's stomach has a small lump to show his belly button that has a small 'X' on it to signify it is his belly button. On the white side, his eye is a normal small black circle while on the black side his eye is red and shaped like a part of the Kiboumine Academy's logo. Monokuma comes with two different facial expressions. One is his usual smile where the white side looks like a normal bear mouth while the black side has been pulled up into an evil-looking grin. The second expression shows Monokuma laughing loudly. His mouth is open and while the white side looks harmless his black side looks positively evil. His wide grin is now open and showing off his sharp teeth. There are also optional features that Monokuma can hold to recreate scenes from the Danganronpa series. There is the brown gavel (judge mallet) that he can hold in his hand as well as a red punishment button to recreate the famous punishment scenes. There are alternate arm parts that allow the Monokuma Nendoroid to pose in various ways to recreate the fans’ favorite scenes from the Danganronpa series.

About Monokuma

Monokuma is a robot in the shape of a bear that gives commands and forces people into a game full of despair. He is colored white and black and is split perfectly in the middle giving off a ying-yang vibe. His personality does reflect the duality of his colors as well. He can sometimes act very polite and shy, showing a very cute side. Then suddenly he can act very evil and sinister detailing very gruesome punishments to scare the others and throw them into despair.

About Monokuma: Background

Monokuma appears every time there is despair and he forces the people in the situation into a killing game. Despite Monokuma stating that he takes despair very seriously and that he wished to plunge the whole world into despair, he acts very childishly. Monokuma jokes around a lot and doesn’t seem to take things seriously. The design of his half black and white shows the bipolar characteristic he holds. He can be polite in one moment and the next moment, be very crazy and laugh about the death of a character.

About Monokuma: Abilities

Monokuma is able to use a despair brainwashing video to brainwash anybody into going to the side of despair. The people who are members of despair would do whatever he says if it would bring more despair, he even forced one of the members to commit suicide to start another death game to make the members of the side of hope wallow in despair and betray each other.

Other Important Danganronpa Characters

As Monokuma is the main villain of the series he interacts with a lot of the characters. He mostly talks with Makoto Naegi as he possesses the skill of ultimate luck that can destroy his plans. Monokuma also makes use of Chiaki Nanami, the class president of one of the elite classes.

Makoto Naegi

Makoto Naegi is a very optimistic character. He doesn’t have much self-confidence and doesn’t think he belongs in the elite classroom but he tries his best. He is the character that holds the brightest light of hope in his heart and tries to beat the despair that Monokuma is spreading. Even though Monokuma and Makoto are on opposite sides and are supposed to be enemies they do treat each other without hostility.

Chiaki Nanami

Chiaki Nanami is known as the ultimate gamer and is very talented at playing games. Thanks to her title she is placed in an elite classroom in Kiboumine Academy. Despite her shy nature, she becomes the class president and an important member of the class. Monokuma takes advantage of the fact that she is very loved and uses her to make a brainwashing video to turn all the students in Kiboumine Academy into students who act in despair.
