OtapediaRin Tohsaka Fate/Stay Night - Nendoroid

Fate/stay night is a visual novel from TYPE-MOON that introduced the world to the Fate series franchise. Although it had humble beginnings, the Fate series is now one of the most popular multimedia franchises in Japan and spans over many different games, manga series, and anime adaptations. Throughout its countless iterations, however, Rin Tohsaka from Fate/stay night remains one of the most popular characters in the entire franchise. This has resulted in countless pieces of merchandise based on her character. One notable example is the Nendoroid line of figures from Good Smile Company, which announced a second wave of the original Rin Tohsaka Nendoroid titled the "Nendoroid Fate/stay night Rin Tohsaka (Re-run)" back in May 2020.

Nendoroid Fate/stay night Rin Tohsaka (Re-run)

This particular Nendoroid is based on Rin Tohsaka's appearance in the original Fate/stay night visual novel. Rin is portrayed wearing her iconic outfit: a red long-sleeved turtleneck with a silver cross on the chest, a black pleated skirt, thigh-high socks, and her hair worn up in twin-tails. Like with many other figures, this Nendoroid comes with several extra interchangeable parts for added customization. Such parts include added expressions, like those of determination and bashful frustration. Other accessories include a pair of glasses, Rin's Azoth Sword, the Jeweled Sword of Zelretch, and other magical effect pieces.

About Rin Tohsaka

Rin Tohsaka is a major character from Fate/stay night and the main love interest for Shirou Emiya in the Unlimited Blade Works route of the game.

About Rin Tohsaka: Background

Rin Tohsaka was born into a line of powerful magi known for their use of Jewel magecraft. After she was chosen to inherit the knowledge of her family's magic, she was put under great pressure to hone her abilities as a magus and succeed in her efforts. This eventually led her to become somewhat of a perfectionist with an incredibly competitive personality. Outside of her life as a magi, Rin also attends Homurahara School along with Sakura and Shirou. Most of her peers see her as a bossy and aggressive honor student, though she has a kind and sympathetic side to her personality as well, particularly when it comes to Shirou. In Fate/stay night, Rin summons Archer, much to her frustration, as she intended and expected to summon a Saber-class Servant.

About Rin Tohsaka: Abilities

As a member of the prestigious Tohsaka family, Rin has exceptional skills when it comes to using magic and is one of the few magi who is able to use magic of all five Elements. On top of having access to a wide range of different spells, she also wields the Tohsaka family's specialty: Jewel magecraft. This technique lets Rin store magical energy into jewels to create items with a variety of uses that depend on the type of gem used. A few examples of this technique include creating familiars with an amethyst, manifesting blinding lights with obsidian, casting fire spells with a ruby, and draining a target's magical energy with a sapphire.

Other Important Fate/stay night Characters

As one of the major characters of Fate/stay night, Rin has relationships with many different characters throughout the story. That said, some of the most notable relationships she has are with her ally and love interest, Shirou Emiya, and her biological younger sister, Sakura Matou.

Shirou Emiya

Shirou Emiya is the protagonist of Fate/stay night. At the beginning of the story of Fate/stay night, he is nearly killed by another Servant but is found and saved by Rin. Although he has next to no ability as a magus, he ends up summoning Saber, which forces him into participating in the Fifth Holy Grail War. Shirou was also the sole survivor of a terrible fire caused by the Fourth Holy Grail War. Shirou was spared because he was saved by Kiritsugu Emiya, who then became his adoptive father. Despite having little magical knowledge or energy, Kiritsugu did teach Shirou a bit of magic, allowing Shirou to use Reinforcement and Projection magecraft. Although Rin likes to bicker with him, the two end up teaming up to overcome challenges together.

Sakura Matou

Sakura Matou was originally a member of the Tohsaka family and Rin's younger sister. However, after Rin was chosen as the successor to the family's magecraft, Sakura was adopted by the Matou family, a close ally of the Tohsaka family that required a successor of their own. Like Rin and Shirou, Sakura is also a student of Homurahara Academy, though she is a year behind the other two. Sakura is often seen as a shy and timid girl by her peers but is secretly put through torturous training by her adoptive family to make her a suitable host for the head of the Matou Family, Zouken Matou. Despite losing most of her emotions as a side effect of her training, she still holds feelings toward Shirou and is the main love interest in the Heaven's Feel route of Fate/stay night.
