OtapediaDeath Stranding - Nendoroid

Death Stranding is a game that was directed by Hideo Kojima and is the first major project developed by Kojima Productions. When the game was released in 2019, it received generally positive reception, particularly from fans of Kojima's previous works. Like with other highly anticipated releases, Death Stranding received a wide variety of merchandise for fans to collect. Of course, figures of the various characters from the game are no exception. Among these, figures from Good Smile Company's Nendoroid are particularly popular because of their cute, chibi-style designs and moderate prices. Currently, there are two Nendoroid figures of characters from Death Stranding that are available for purchase: the "Nendoroid Death Stranding Cliff" and the "Nendoroid Death Stranding Sam Bridges".

Nendoroid Death Stranding Cliff

This figure depicts Cliff, the mysterious soldier who is on an unending search for his BB. Much like his role as a former soldier, Cliff is shown wearing full combat gear, including an olive-green uniform, dark green combat vest, black boots, and a rifle. Black tar also stains Cliff's face, uniform, and finger, which creates an unsettling appearance when combined with its otherwise cute, chibi-style aesthetic. Like many other Nendoroids, this figure also includes several points of articulation and extra parts that allow for plenty of customization. Additional parts in this figure include a hand holding a cigarette, a broken baby doll, and two face plates: one with his eyes open and the other with them closed.

Nendoroid Death Stranding Sam Porter Bridges

This Nendoroid depicts the protagonist of Death Stranding, Sam Porter Bridges, as an adorable chibi-style figure. It has Sam wearing his Bridges porter gear, which includes a blue and orange uniform and cargo holster. Other accessories that come with this figure include a cargo case, an Odradek Terrain Scanner, a rifle, a cryptobiote, and a recreation of BB-28 in his pod. Like the Nendoroid of Cliff, this figure is also highly articulated, making it easy to recreate one's favorite scenes from the game.

About Death Stranding

Death Stranding is an open-world action-adventure game that was directed by Hideo Kojima and originally released for the PlayStation 4 on November 8, 2019. Much of the gameplay revolves around Sam carrying cases of cargo to various people, avoiding cargo thieves, and fighting against BTs.

About Death Stranding: Story

Death Stranding is set in a futuristic and post-apocalyptic version of the United States of America, where the balance of life and death has shifted, causing the souls of the dead to roam among the living as dangerous and hostile beings known as BTs. Meanwhile, a strange phenomenon called "timefall" also plagues the world, as anything hit with this unusual precipitation begins to age and degrade rapidly. These things, along with other issues, make the world in Death Stranding a very difficult, but not impossible, world to live in. Overall, the game follows Sam Porter Bridges and his attempts to deliver cargo to others, connect the rest of the country to Bridge's Chiral Network, and evade BTs.

About Death Stranding: Characters

The protagonist of Death Stranding is Sam Porter Bridges, a well-renowned porter who always delivers cargo to other people and organizations without fail. He is also one of the only known people in Death Stranding to be a "repatriate", which grants Sam the ability to endlessly come back to life after death. Throughout his adventure, Sam comes to know many people, like his adoptive sister, Amelie, his Bridge Baby BB-28, the leader of Homo Demens, Higgs, and the mysterious woman, Fragile.

Death Stranding Development

Death Stranding is the first title by Kojima Productions since it left Konami in 2015. Production for the game began shortly after the restructuring of the company and finished in 2019.

Death Stranding Development: Production

Development for Death Stranding began around December 2015, after Kojima Productions officially left Konami and re-established itself as an independent game studio. The first trailer of the game was revealed at the 2016 Electronic Entertainment Expo as a part of Sony's conference. Full development would commence the following year. In the following years, more trailers for Death Stranding would be produced, revealing more and more of the cast involved with the project. Death Stranding would later be ported to PC on July 14, 2020, while a "director's cut" of the game would launch on the PlayStation 5 on September 24, 2021.

Death Stranding Development: Reception

Like many games developed by Hideo Kojima, Death Stranding was met with great anticipation after it was first teased in 2016. While many generally praised the game for Kojima's cinematographic style of storytelling, others criticized it because a majority of the game consists of walking from one place to another. That said, Death Stranding also features a unique social aspect of gameplay where helpful objects and structures can be left in one's world by another player, giving the world an added sense of life. Overall, Death Stranding would go on to sell over five million copies across the worldwide PC and PS4 releases.
