OtapediaBayonetta - Nendoroid

Bayonetta is a series of action role-playing video games developed by PlatinumGames. Since the release of the first game in 2009, many fans fell in love with the titular protagonist and her flirtatious, playful personality. The series remains relevant to this very day, particularly after a trailer for the third game in the series was revealed in 2017. Due to its popularity, plenty of merchandise is based on the series' characters and one of the most popular are collectible figures. Among these, Good Smile Company's Nendoroid line of figures is widely known for its cute, chibi-style aesthetic. When it comes to the Bayonetta series, there is currently one Nendoroid that has been released: the "Nendoroid Bayonetta".

Nendoroid Bayonetta

This figure features the titular protagonist, Bayonetta, as she appears in the first game of the series. This rendition has her wearing a black, skin-tight suit lined with golden chains, matching heels, and her long, black hair worn in a beehive and tied with a red ribbon. The figure also includes details like Bayonetta's white gloves, gold earrings, and black glasses as well. Several points of articulation found in the figure's limbs also allow for a variety of poses, while the interchangeable parts make it even easier to recreate a number of scenes from the game. Some of these extra parts include several facial expression plates, spare legs and arms, combat effect parts, as well as Bayonetta's Bloody Rose Lollipop and butterfly wings.

About Bayonetta

The Bayonetta series follows its protagonist, Bayonetta, an Umbra Witch who rises from a 500-year-long slumber to find herself with no memories of who she was. As the player progresses through the game, Bayonetta begins to remember who she is and learns how she connects to the greater story.

About Bayonetta: Story

The original Bayonetta mainly takes place in a city named Vigrid, a fictional city in Europe that is also referred to as the "City of Deja Vu". After rising from her 500-year slumber, Bayonetta finds that she is in possession of one of the Eyes of the World and travels to Vigrid to search for the other, as an informant named Enzo told her that finding it is the key to Bayonetta regaining her memories. As she regains her memories, Bayonetta realizes that she is an Umbra Witch, a clan of magic practitioners that originally gained their power from Demons. Still left with many questions, Bayonetta encounters a woman named Jeanne, who uses magic and weapons similar to herself. That said, Jeanne allies herself with Angels and the Lumen Sages, the lighter counterpart of Umbra Witches. The two would face off against each other multiple times and, with each battle, Bayonetta would learn more and more about herself and her history with Jeanne.

About Bayonetta: Characters

Bayonetta herself is a beautiful and charming woman with a flirtatious personality. She also has the ability to use a fighting technique called "Bullet Arts" which uses a combination of martial and firearm attacks to defeat opponents. In addition, she also wields Dark Arts magic, which allows her to speed herself up, defy gravity, and summon demons, among other things. In her travels, she comes across many other colorful characters as well. Some examples include Rodin, the demon weapons dealer and owner of a bar named the Gates of Hell, Luka, the journalist focused on getting revenge on Bayonetta for killing his father, and Father Balder, the main antagonist and only living member of the Lumen Sages.

Bayonetta Series Development

The Bayonetta series is developed by PlatinumGames and directed by Hideki Kamiya. Since the release of the original Bayonetta in 2009, there are currently three known games in the main series, with Bayonetta 3 expected to release in 2022.

Bayonetta Series Development: Production

Kamiya began directing the first Bayonetta game around January 2007 and, with the other developers at PlatinumGames, created the Xbox 360 version of Bayonetta. Since PlatinumGames was under contract with Sega at the time, Sega hired another developer to port the game to PlayStation 3 as well. Bayonetta would go on to launch for both systems in Japan on October 29, 2009. Ports to other platforms like the Wii U, PC, Switch, and PlayStation 4 would be released in 2014, 2017, 2018, and 2020 respectively. A sequel for the original Bayonetta was planned shortly after the first release, but Sega rejected proposals for the game. As a result, years would pass before Nintendo offered to be a publisher for the sequel. Bayonetta 2 would finally be released on September 20, 2014, although exclusively for the Wii U as a part of Nintendo taking over as publisher. Bayonetta 3 would later be teased at the 2017 Game Awards and is set to release for the Nintendo Switch in 2022.

Bayonetta Series Development: Reception

When the original Bayonetta released, it was met with generally positive criticism from fans and reviewers alike. Many praised the game for the fluid, yet intricate combat that many games developed by PlatinumGames is known for. In addition, the protagonist of the series quickly became beloved by fans due to her independent, playful personality and fashionable design. Bayonetta would go on to become so popular, she would be announced the winner of the Super Smash Bros. Fighter Ballot, which had fans submit their favorite characters to add them to the game's roster.
