OtapediaEdward Elric Fullmetal Alchemist - Nendoroid

Hiromu Arakawa's Fullmetal Alchemist remains one of the most beloved shonen manga in the world. The series protagonist, Edward Elric, dominated polls as one of the most popular shonen characters of all time. His fiery attitude, top-level skills, and complex psychological depth made him a character that resonates with fans long after the story ended. Edward joined the Nendoroid family alongside his brother in the figure "Nendoroid Fullmetal Alchemist Edward Elric (Re-run)".

Nendoroid Fullmetal Alchemist Edward Elric (Re-run)

The Fullmetal Alchemist himself joins the Nendoroid family in this appropriately petite figure. Ed's automail arm has a gunmetal steel metallic finish that continues on his state alchemist pocket watch. The arm itself is also specially articulated to recreate Ed's transmutation pose. A translucent blue effect piece mimics the flash of energy during the moment of transmutation. Additional, clothed arm parts also complete action poses from the anime. The figure comes with three faceplates: a serious glare, a taunting smile, and a cartoonish, angry expression. Additional accessories include a partially transmuted wall and a blade attachment for Ed's automail arm.

About Edward Elric

Edward Elric is the protagonist and titular character of Fullmetal Alchemist. At age 12, he became the youngest licensed State Alchemist. He and his brother, Alphonse, travel across the country together searching for the legendary Philosopher's Stone.

About Edward Elric: Background

Ed is outwardly childish, impulsive, and stubborn. His stubbornness and petty nature earned him the nickname "Fullmetal" after earning his State Alchemist certification. However, Ed is also hardworking and intelligent, teaching himself upper level alchemy by age 11. On the surface, Ed appears to act only in self-interest, protecting his ego and actively defying authority figures. However, at his core, Ed suffers from a deep-seated guilt complex. He feels responsible for his brother's condition and any possible effect he could have on others. In this way, his motives have an underlying current of selflessness.

Ed grew up with his younger brother in the eastern countryside. Their father was largely absent, leaving the burden of childcare and domestic responsibilities to their mother. After their mother fell ill and died, Ed and Al attempted to bring her back to life, the biggest taboo in alchemy. During this event, Ed lost an arm and leg while Al lost his physical body entirely.

About Edward Elric: Abilities

Physically, Ed possesses surprising strength considering his age and stature. His spartan training with menor Izumi Curtis gave Ed high-level combat skills and techniques. Ed's automail arm and leg add to his offensive and defensive capabilities. Several times throughout the series, Ed uses these limbs to deflect bullets or brace animal attacks and transmutes them into stronger weapons. His limbs also have setbacks due to their required maintenance, sensitivity to temperature, and stress placed on his body.

Ed is considered a genius-level alchemical prodigy. As a small child, Ed had a natural aptitude for and curiosity toward alchemy. He taught himself several basic techniques from the journals left behind in his father's study. He also possesses an advanced understanding of chemistry, biology, and math. After his visit to the gate, Ed can perform alchemy without a transmutation circle by holding his hands together.

Other Important Fullmetal Alchemist Characters

Ed’s most significant relationship in the story is with his brother, Alphonse Elric. However, Ed derives his motives and strengths from several other characters throughout his life.

Winry Rockbell

Winry Rockbell is a supporting character in Fullmetal Alchemist and childhood friend of Ed and Al. She is a training surgeon and enthusiastic mechanic studying under her grandmother, Pinako. Her bubbly, hot-headed, and strong-willed personality often puts her at odds with Ed.

Winry lost her parents during the Ishval Civil War at a very young age. She was raised by her grandmother and had a sibling-like relationship with the Elric brothers. When Ed lost his arm and leg, Winry helped her grandmother outfit him with automail limbs. She takes it upon herself to maintain Ed's limbs and physically berates him when he damages them. Over time, her relationship with Ed deepens and matures, leading to romantic love.

Van Hohenheim

Van Hohenheim is Ed and Al's estranged alchemist father. He left his family when his children were still babies. In all story versions, Hohenheim is one of the most powerful alchemists of all time with a deceptively long lifespan.

Ed harbors a deep resentment for his father. One of his earliest memories is the day Hohenheim left, leading him to believe his father was abandoning them. He blames his father's absence for his mother's death and initially rejects him entirely upon his return. While Al calls Hohenheim "dad," Ed only calls him by name.
