Edward “Ed” Elric is the older of the two brothers at the center of Fullmetal Alchemist - the smash hit manga franchise by Hiromu Arakawa which has been adapted into two different TV anime series: Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, as well as several animated movies.

The shorter of the two brothers, Ed loses his leg in an alchemical exchange in which the brothers hoped to resurrect their mother, and later loses his arm in binding the spirit of his brother Alphonse to a suit a of armor. After receiving “automail” prosthetics from his childhood friend Winry, Ed sets off with Al to the city where the pair become State Alchemists under the command of Roy Mustang. The brothers must then devote themselves to finding the Philosopher’s Stone in the hopes of regaining their physical bodies.
