About Ichigo Kurosaki: Background
Ichigo has had strong instincts to protect those he loves from a very young age. At first, as a teenager, he seems rebellious and detached from others. However, he is in fact a kind-hearted and compassionate person. When Rukia transfers her power to Ichigo to aid her in defeating a hollow, he is transformed into a soul reaper.
After becoming a soul reaper, he soon warms up to the idea despite being reluctant at first. He often ends up risking his life to protect those important to him, sometimes even protecting strangers. Throughout the series, Ichigo constantly fights to protect those around him, and we see him adapting to his newfound powers.
About Ichigo Kurosaki: Abilities
Ichigo holds immense spiritual strength. So much so that he was able to defeat a Gillian without awakening his full power. His Zanpakuto is called Zangetsu and was originally oversized but looked like a plain katana. The Shikai form of Zangetsu showed an oversized khyber knife rather than a katana. The Shikai form had a black blade with a silver edge with the cloth wrapping reacting to Ichigo’s will. Getsuga Tensho is a unique ability the Zangetsu possesses. It is when it releases an immense amount of spiritual energy at the tip of the blade.
Although he is spiritually gifted, he is also naturally talented. Even in his human form, he has immense strength, speed, reflexes, and durability, further enhanced with shunpo. He also is an expert at hand-to-hand combat as he trained in martial arts at a young age. Notably, he also has an exponential growth rate. He can control advanced abilities within days when it would take several years for even the most gifted soul reapers to obtain the abilities.

Rukia Kuchiki
Rukia Kuchiki is a soul reaper and one of Ichigo’s best friends and has been an ally from the very start. She first meets Ichigo when she breaks into his house, not knowing he can see her. As a dire situation occurs, she is forced to transfer some of her power to Ichigo so he can fight instead of her. However, when transferring her power, she accidentally transfers more than intended, leaving her unable to return to the Soul Society. Rukia is the one who teaches Ichigo about the Soul Reaper powers. Ichigo also goes after Rukia to save her from being executed when she is taken back to Soul Society.
Orihime Inoue
Orihime is also one of Ichigo’s best friends and develops spiritual powers after Ichigo saves her from Acidwire. She is a friendly and kind-hearted but naive person and uses her power to help others. She also joins Ichigo when they head to the Soul Society to save Rukia and is constantly there to help Ichigo and his adventures.
Renji Abarai
Renji is a Soul Reaper of squad 6. He was sent to the human world to find Rukia and bring her back to Soul Society. He fights Ichigo when he is in the human world to take Rukia and when Ichigo arrives in the Soul Society to rescue Rukia as he initially blames Rukia’s sentence on Ichigo. He ultimately comes to Ichigo’s aid and becomes a strong ally of Ichigo’s and helps him out consistently throughout the series.
Uryu Ishida
Uryu is a classmate of Ichigo Kurosaki, who turns out to be a Quincy, a clan of humans that were destroyed by the soul reapers. While he believes that soul reapers are corrupt and liars, they form a friendship after fighting alongside Ichigo and Rukia to stop a hollow invasion. He is seen fighting alongside Ichigo in numerous fight scenes.
