OtapediaUndertaker World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) - BE@RBRICK

World Wrestling Entertainment Inc. is an entertainment company that focuses mainly on professional wrestling. In the company’s prime, one of the most prolific and well-known fighters in WWE was The Undertaker. Meanwhile, Medicom Toy eventually sought collaboration with WWE, resulting in the creation of a BE@BRICK figure of the powerhouse athlete that is simply titled “BE@RBRICK The Undertaker 100%”.

WWE x BE@RBRICK Collaboration Background

The collaboration between WWE and BE@RBRICK happened in December 2014 with the release of the Hulkamania BE@RBRICK figure. In total, four unique BE@RBRICK designs have been released as a part of this collaboration, with the most recent being a BE@RBRICK figure of Shinsuke Nakamura.

Collaboration Planning and Launch

Nearly two years after the release of the first WWE BE@RBRICK figure, a BE@RBRICK figure of The Undertaker would be made available. In August 2019, figures of two other WWE fighters, AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura, would get BE@RBRICK figures of their own as well. Both the Hulkamania and The Undertaker figures were made in both BE@RBRICK’s 100% and 400% sizes, though the other two were only produced in the standard 100% size.

BE@RBRICK The Undertaker 100%

This Undertaker figure is the second product to come from the WWE and BE@RBRICK collaboration and features one of The Undertaker’s iconic outfits: a long, black trench coat with matching pants, black shoes, gloves, and hat. The black shirt underneath the trench coat also has The Undertaker’s unique logo, a crossed-out capital “T”, painted in purple on the chest. The resulting figure has simplified facial features, yet has enough distinguishing characteristics to let the audience know exactly who the figure is supposed to be. The classic round BE@RBRICK ears on this figure are also made with clear plastic, which helps give it a more human-like appearance. Furthermore, the legs and arms of this particular figure are articulated, allowing fans to create a variety of different poses with the figure.

About WWE

World Wrestling Entertainment is a company that is widely known for its presence in the professional wrestling industry around the world. The company first began as the Capitol Wrestling Corporation in 1953, which later became a part of the National Wrestling Alliance. After issues regarding the founders of the CWC, the NWA, and Buddy Rogers in 1963, the executives of the CWC left the NWA and formed the World Wide Wrestling Federation and would continue to change branding multiple times in the following years until 2002, where it was finally changed once again to World Wrestling Entertainment. Overall, the company would go on to dominate the professional wrestling business, particularly after the production of WrestleMania in 1985. As of early 2021, WWE is split into three main shows with their own roster of characters: Raw, SmackDown, and NXT.

The Undertaker Background: Biography

The man behind The Undertaker is named Mark Calaway and was born on March 24th, 1965 in Houston, Texas. From high school onward, Calaway’s life had always been centered on sports. He played both football and basketball and even managed to enroll at Angelina College through a basketball scholarship in 1983. He would later transfer to Texas Wesleyan University, where he studied sports management as he played for the college’s basketball team. Three years later, however, Calaway would leave the university in the hopes of finding a career playing sports professionally. He eventually found his calling with professional wrestling and made his debut in June 1987.

Although Calaway’s early career was not very well received, he would eventually gain the attention of Vince McMahon, the CEO of WWF/WWE. This eventually led to the creation of “Kane the Undertaker”, who made his debut in October 1990. During his time with WWF/WWE, The Undertaker became closely associated with WrestleMania. In this annual event, The Undertaker went undefeated in his WrestleMania matches for 21 years. This accomplishment quickly became known as “The Streak” and eventually came to end in 2014, where he was defeated by Brock Lesnar. In June 2020, Calaway would officially retire from wrestling.
