OtapediaROSTARR - BE@RBRICK

Brooklyn artist ROSTARR constantly blurs the lines between art and design. He constantly strives to find freedom in his art styles and creates abstract and spontaneous pieces. Over the years, he has collaborated with major brands such as “Nike”, “Diesel”, and “MOMA”. In 2019, Medicom Toys finally added this renowned artist to their list of collaborators. The BE@BRICK ROSTARR 100% & 400% set is a fantastic look into the complicated mind of ROSTARR.

ROSTARR x BE@RBRICK Collaboration Background

As of 2021, the collaboration between ROSTARR and BE@RBRICK has only produced one figure. Hopefully, Medicom toys will release more in the coming years.

Collaboration Planning and Launch

In August of 2019 Medicom toys and ROSTARR released a unique BE@RBRICK with ROSTARR’s iconic style. This figure comes in 100% and 400% sizes. Upon release, it began sale at directly managed Medicom stores, online stores, and many other stores as well.

BE@RBRICK ROSTARR 100% & 400% Set

This set of two blue and black-toned BE@RBRICKs quite accurately captures the essence of ROSTARR’s work. It is very reminiscent of his recent painting, Diluvium Neptune I. Rostarr’s signature geometric strokes cover the figure. A galaxy blue washes over it, filled with different tones. There are cool icy blues, bright pinks, and purples, amidst a seemingly starry black background. White streaks fall down through the figure, adding to its dreamy feeling. Both of the figures are painted uniquely so the patterns are not exactly the same. This BE@RBRICK would be a beautiful addition to any art collection.

About ROSTARR

ROSTARR (real name Romon Kimin Yang) was born in South Korea in 1971. Yang’s family moved to Washington DC when he was 1 year old. He eventually moved to New York City in 1989 where he attended The School of Visual Arts to study design. His experimental pieces draw from a number of influences. This includes his cultural background, geometric shapes, and street and graffiti art. Since the early 1990s he has been active in the art world and rapidly spreading his name. In 2000, I.D. Magazine listed him as one of “I.D. 40 under 30”. The MOMA recognized him as an honoree in 2004. In 2010, his short film “Kill the Ego” was presented in Paris at the 2010 Venice Short Film festival. ROSTARR also participated in an exhibition show titled “Beautiful Losers” which toured worldwide. This paired with his collaborations with major brands and his solo exhibitions around the world has marked his fame internationally. He is also very well known for his book, Graphysics.

About Graphysics

Graphysics is a term coined by ROSTARR for an iconographic visual language that he created. This visual language is characterized by its heavy influence from geometric shapes and their dynamism. Graphysics is evident in the majority of ROSTARR’s work. He continues to build upon it with his calligraphic works and abstract paintings and he has written a book about it. Fans are excited to see the evolution of this visual language.

About Infinity Cosmos

‘Infinity Cosmos’ is the name of a 2021 gallery presenting newer ROSTARR pieces. The pieces in this collection are different from much of ROSTARR’s previous works. Namely, the use of color. While previously, he worked with mostly black and white with a few statement colors, these pieces are extremely colorful and expressive. Some of the pieces include ‘Rainy Day People (Yellow Rain), 2021’, ‘ Metaphysical Cosmos (Indigo Fire), 2021’, and ‘Diluvium Neptune I, 2021’. ‘Diluvium Neptune I’ is the piece that most starkly resembles the BE@RBRICK ROSTARR 100% & 400% set, with its stunning use of bright blues and blacks. “Rainy Day People’ stands out in particular because of its flashes of white and rainbow background. It feels especially positive and ethereal. ROSTARR’s use of colors opens up a new world for him.

Other Important ROSTARR work

While a majority of ROSTARR’s pieces are monochromatic and based on typography, he has created a vast amount of interesting experimental pieces. Black and white with a bold red accent is often seen in his pieces. His work explores the boundaries of style and form, and he works to find freedom in his art.

The Seedling

Made of simple curved forms, the Seedling is one of ROSTARR’s trademarked icons. Expertly sculpted, the symbol is a transition from his 2D works to a 3D space. This seedling represents ROSTARR’s creative fertility.
