“Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai” is a song that was created by Kids Day Band and released in 2016. To commemorate the release of the song, a BE@RBRICK figure inspired by the cover art of the single was created as well. This figure is simply titled the “NY@BRICK Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai”.

Kids Day Band x BE@RBRICK Collaboration Background

As of early 2021, the collaborative effort between Medicom Toy’s BE@BRICK line and Kids Day Band has only produced a single figure and was produced outside of BE@RBRICK’s standard serialized releases.

Collaboration Planning and Launch

This collaboration between Kids Day Band and BE@RBRICK got its start after the limited physical release of their song “Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai” in August 2016. The cover was also released with art that used the Kids Day logo by Keiko Sootome, who went on to design the BE@RBRICK figure as well. In October 2016, the first and currently only BE@RBRICK figure inspired by Kids Day Band was released. The design of the figure took most of its inspiration from the boy found in the logo and also included a download code for “Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai”.

NY@BRICK Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai

This figure is one of the first NY@BRICK figures that were produced by Medicom Toy. NY@BRICK figures replace the big, rounded bear ears of the original BE@RBRICK line with pointy, triangular cat-like ears. The overall design of this particular figure features the iconic bowl cut and excited expression of the boy from Keiko Sootome’s original logo created for Kids Day Band.

The white shirt worn by the boy in this figure displays several aspects of Sootome’s original logo, like a rainbow, music notes, and other simple geometric shapes. The front of the shirt also has the title of the song, “Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai” written in hiragana as well. The back of the figure has Kids Day Band written inside of a large, pink heart as well, crediting the band that created the original song. A download code is also included to allow its user to listen to the song that inspired this particular figure. The figure stands at approximately 65 millimeters (2.5 inches) tall -- a fairly unusual size for 100% BE@RBRICK figures, which are usually 70 millimeters.

About Kids Day Band

Kids Day Band refers to a special group of musicians that were gathered to create “Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai” as a theme song to go along with Sanrio Puroland’s Kid’s Day event in 2016. This group was composed of several well-established musicians and vocalists. Among them were Kazumi Nikaido, Bose, ASA-CHANG, Yumiko Oono, and Keigo Oyamada.

Nikaido performed the main vocals for the song, while Bose (from Schadaraparr) performed the rap segments. Furthermore, ASA-CHANG, the founder of the Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, played the drums while the bass and guitar were played by Oono Yumiko (from Buffalo Daughter) and Oyamada Keigo (from Cornelius) respectively. As of early 2021, “Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai” is the only work that Kids Day Band has produced.

About “Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai”

“Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai” is a song that was originally created to act as a theme song for the Kid’s Day Festival at Sanrio Puroland. Sanrio Puroland is a theme park focused on the Sanrio brand and features characters like Hello Kitty, Gudetama, My Melody, and so on. The park also holds special events on annual holidays, with one particularly notable example being Kid’s Day (also known as Children’s Day). This holiday takes place on May 5th every year and is viewed as a day to celebrate the health and happiness of children as they continue to grow.

As one might expect, “Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai” takes a great deal of influence from this holiday and focuses heavily on the relationship between children and their parents. The song was also accompanied by a music video featuring several actors in Sanrio character costumes acting and dancing along with the music. Although the song itself was officially released in August 2016, it was used to promote the Kids Day Festival earlier in March that same year.

Related Figures

Since “Daidai Daisuki Dakishimetai” was produced specifically for Sanrio Puroland, one might be happy to learn that BE@RBRICK has collaborated with Sanrio to create dozens of other figures based on the brand’s popular characters. By far the character with the most representation and variety is Hello Kitty, who has figures that are based on her many different designs as they changed throughout the years. The Little Twin Stars, Kiki, and Lala, also have multiple figures as well. A BE@RBRICK featuring a collage of Sanrio Characters was also produced in December 2012. Like many other BE@RBRICK figures, these figures also came in several sizes, with the most common being 100%, 400%, and 1000%.
