As a franchise, Care Bears has undergone numerous reinventions. With each milestone anniversary, the designs and character lineup receive a facelift to engage a new group of kids. However, at its core, the story and bears remain the same. One of the original fan-favorite bears, Funshine Bear, gets a chance to shine in Medicom Toy's "BE@RBRICK Care Bears Funshine Bear 400%" figure.

Care Bears and BE@RBRICK Collaboration Background

The Care Bears and BE@BRICK Collaboration began during the Care Bears 25th-anniversary relaunch era. As a result, the new franchise face, Cheer Bear, introduced Care Bears to the BE@RBRICK line.

Collaboration Planning and Launch

The first Care Bear BE@RBRICKS in 2009 included a 400% size Cheer Bear and a 100% keychain style True Heart Bear. The next entries in the collaboration wouldn't be released until 2017, coinciding with Care Bears' 35th anniversary. Funshine Bear launched as a solo entry in 2018 as a pair of 400% and 100% figures. Most recently, Medicom Toy released a Love-a-Lot BE@RBRICK in the 400% and 100% sizes. The company also gained rights to produce a Care Bear plush and released one depicting Cheer Bear in 2020.

BE@RBRICK Care Bears Funshine Bear 400%

This articulated bear-shaped figure is the perfect model to show off Funshine Bear's sparkling personality. Most of the figure body is painted in Funshine Bear's signature warm gold aside from their snout, ears, and belly. Their smiling sun Belly Badge takes its design from the mid-2010's era plush model. Funshine Bear has an equally cheerful smile on their face and their eyebrows raised in an easy-going manner. The design retains the Care Bear iconic heart-shaped nose. On the backside, the figure includes a small, darker golden heart near the rump: the trademark of a Care Bear.

About Care Bears

Care Bears is a franchise including illustrations, plush toys, and television media that began in the early 1980s. After American Greetings partnered with Parker Toys, Care Bears launched to the general public in February of 1983. By the end of 1987, Care Bears sales reached over 40 million. In 1991, Care Bears saw the first franchise relaunch, this time with an environmental focus. For the 20th anniversary of the franchise in 2002, the series relaunched again on a larger scale. The bear designs received an upgrade along with the Care Bear Cousins. The 2007 relaunch focused on five new franchise faces: Funshine Bear, Cheer Bear, Grumpy Bear, Share Bear, and the new Oopsy Bear. As of 2021, 2019 marked the latest relaunch of the series with a new set of central bears and locations outside of the well-known Care-a-Lot.

About Funshine Bear

Funshine Bear is one of the original 10 Care Bears debuted in 1982. In every iteration of Care Bears, Funshine Bear has a happy-go-lucky, fun-loving personality. They always look on the sunny side of life and look for opportunities to play with their friends. In some of the tv shows, Funshine Bear takes on a more athletic, outgoing personality or has a specialty for telling jokes. Consistently, Funshine Bear's greatest source of sadness is not having friends to spend time with. Their Belly Badge, a smiling sun, has the power to emit sunbeams that can solve Funshine Bear's problems.

Other Important Care Bears Characters

Over the years, Care Bears has expanded to include a large cast of memorable, loveable bears and other caring animals.

Birthday Bear

Birthday Bear is one of the first Care Bears from the American Greetings card illustration. He is a golden yellow bear with a cupcake Belly Badge. His special belief is that every day is a good day because it's someone's birthday. He has a party-loving personality that makes him ready for a celebration at any given moment. Even when someone feels grumpy and lonely on their birthday, Birthday Bear shows up and spends the whole day as their best friend. In the 2002 relaunch, Birthday Bear was replaced by Share Bear as one of the "Core Bears."

Cheer Bear

Cheer Bear is an original Care Bear that brims with happiness and joy. Her mission in life is to make everyone as happy and cheerful as she is. However, this sometimes causes problems when other characters need to feel other emotions. Understandably, her hardest relationship is with Grumpy Bear as she constantly annoys him while trying to cheer him up. She has medium pink fur and a rainbow Belly Badge. Her Belly Badge gives her the ability to project tangible rainbows. She is only saddened when unable to cheer up a friend. Cheer Bear recently replaced Tenderheart Bear as the franchise face and leader of the Care Bears.

Brave Heart Lion

Brave Heart Lion is one of the Care Bear Cousins introduced in 1984. From the Forest of Feelings, Brave Heart Lion fulfills the role of leader of the Care Bear Cousins. He is an orange lion with a gold crown-topped heart as his Belly Badge. Brave Heart Lion is very loud and forthright, often charging headfirst into any tough situation. His Belly Badge gives him the ability to transfer confidence and courage to anyone facing fear and doubt. When with the Care Bears, Brave Heart Lion often hangs around Grumpy Bear and Tenderheart Bear.
