Alternate Title

人間失格

Synopsis

In Japan 2036, human beings are guaranteed a 120-year lifespan thanks to nanomachines and the S.H.E.L.L. system which ensures that illness and injury are a thing of the past for those who can afford it. The new technology, however, has created additional problems in an already unequal society resulting in the "Human Lost” phenomenon in which those disconnected from the S.H.E.L.L. system become malformed. Drug user Yozo Oba joins drag racer Masao Horiki on an incursion into elite area The Inside only to be attacked by a “Lost” and rescued by H.I.L.A.M agent Yoshiko Hiiragi, discovering that he too may possess unusual abilities.

Background

Human Lost is very loosely inspired by Osamu Dazai’s classic novel No Longer Human. The movie premiered out of competition at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2019 before getting its North American premiere at Anime Expo, and Canadian premiere at Fantasia International Fantastic Film Festival. Picked up for US distribution by Funimation and international streaming by Netflix, Human Lost will be released worldwide in 2019. m-flo and J Balvin will perform the movie’s main title theme, "Human Lost feat. J Balvin.”
