Synopsis
Melida Angel is born into a noble family of Holy Knights but has no talent for mana. Kufa Vampir is contracted by her grandfather to tutor her. However, his real objective is to determine whether she has any skill and assassinate her if she doesn’t. Not able to bear seeing the scorn that Melida endures, he decides to go against his orders and imbues her with his own mana, awakening her abilities as a mana user, and continues training her to fight.
Background
Assassin's Pride began as a Japanese light novel series written by Kei Amagi with illustrations by Nino Ninomoto that began being published by Fujimi Shobo in 2016 under their imprint Fujimi Fantasia Bunko. Ten volumes have been published so far, with the 11th to be released in October 2019. The series has also spawned a manga adaptation also written by Kei Amagi with artwork by Yoshie Kato that began serialization in Shueisha’s seinen manga magazine Ultra Jump in May 2017. Four tankobon volumes have been printed so far.
The anime adaptation was announced in October 2018 during the Fantasia Bunko Dai Kanshasai 2018 event. It is being directed by Kazuya Aiura at EMT Squared with Deko Akao penning the script, and Maho Yoshikawa designing the characters. Run Girls, Run! will perform the opening theme song "Share the light," and voice actress Tomori Kusunoki, who plays the character Melida Angel, is performing the ending theme song "Time of Foreigners." The anime will premiere in Japan on Oct. 10, 2019.
Characters
Kufa Vampir (Voiced by: Yuki Ono)
A 17-year-old assassin with the White Knight Cavalry. Kufa was picked up by the White Knights and became an assassin after his mother died. He is tasked with tutoring Melida Angel but is bound to his duty to assassinate her is she shows no aptitude. After witnessing her powerlessly fighting for her life against a lycanthrope, he decides to disregard his orders to kill her and continues training her to fight.
Melida Angel (Voiced by: Tomori Kusunoki)
A 13-year-old girl born into a family of Holy Knights but who has no control over mana, Melida is despised by others and is called an “incompetient genius.” She is polite and works hard. Elise calls her Lida.
Elise Angel (Voiced by: Yui Ishikawa)
Melida’s cousin, Elise is 13. Because she is stoic and expressionless, she is easy to misunderstand. She has talent for mana and is at the top of her class. Elise loves Melida and thinks of her as closer than a sister. Melida calls her Eli.
Rosetti Pricket (Voiced by: Marina Yabuuchi)
Elise’s tutor, Rosetti is 16. Though born into the lower caste, she displayed a talent for manga early on and was especially elevated to noble status. She is the youngest member of the Holy City Guard and received the special title of “Career Marquis.” She is treated coldly by Kufa who sees her as his tutor rival.
Nerva Martillo (Voiced by: Ayane Sakura)
A first-year college student, Nerva used to bully Melida but since then they have reconciled and become friends.
Oyaji (Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa)
William Jin (Voiced by: Tatsuhisa Suzuki)
An artificial lycanthrope, William is a young man with cracked skin who wears bandages all over his body. He has an anima that freely manipulates his bandages and he can wrap them around opponents. His bandages her difficult to cut, even with Kufa’s black blade, and they have high defensive properties.
Mule la Mor (Voiced by: Maaya Uchida)
The daughter of the Demon Knight family la Mor, Mule has a mysterious and mature air to her and likes causing mischief. She enjoys reading and has a wealth of knowledge from it.
Salacha Schicksal (Voiced by: Azumi Waki)
The daughter of the Dragon Knight family Schicksal, Salacha is quiet, reserved, and shy but has a deep sense of responsibility and displays tenacity and strength when the need arises.
