Synopsis
A group called the Shinkansen Ultra Evolution Institute was investigating a recent rash of monster attacks happening in Japan after the appearance of a mysterious Black Shinkansen. The SUEI had a major weapon for the fight - Shinkalions, bullet trains that can transform into giant mecha. One boy, Hayato Hayasugi, was a huge fan of trains and stumbled upon his father’s secret work for the SUEI. Surprisingly, Hayato soon became a Shinkalion driver! As perhaps Japan’s best chance of survival, Hayato and other kids take on the great responsibility of fighting otherworldly enemies.
Now, a new giant enemy has come from space looking to conquer the planet. Although the SUEI have a new prototype Shinkalion known as the ALFA-X to take up the fight, Hayato’s father, Hokuto, disappears. A 9-year-old version of Hokuto leaps through time to the present to help fight the alien attackers and drives the ALFA-X!
Background
Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion figures originated in 2015 as a collaboration between the Japan Railways Group and famed plastic model company Takara Tomy, the maker of plarail merchandise. Takara Tomy worked closed with the JRG on the designs of the trains/robots in
Shinkansen Henkei Robo Shinkalion and made them compatible with existing plarail tracks. After the success of the merchandise, the original anime was launched in early 2019. The winter film is a continuation of the anime’s story.
Characters
Hayato Hayasugi (Voiced by: Ayane Sakura)
One of the main protagonists of the film. Hayato is a Shinkalion driver. He resembles his father Hokuto and has short hair. During the film, his casual attire includes a white turtleneck with a blue collar and blue stripe running down one side. His Shinkalion is the E5 Mk II. It is turquoise and yellow in color.
Akita Oga (Voiced by: Manami Numakura)
An 11-year-old male and driver of the Shinkalion E6 Komachi. His Shinkalion is equal parts red and white. Akita doesn’t smile much. He is serious but cares about his friends.
Tsuranuki Daimonyama (Voiced by: Rie Murakawa)
An 11-year-old male and driver of the Shinalion E7 Kagayaki. He is known to be a hot-headed pilot and cracks jokes often. Tsuranuki usually wears blue and yellow clothes. The E7 Kagayaki is mostly blue and white.
Shinobu Tsukiyama (Voiced by: Nanami Yoshimura)
Shinobu is a small 10-year-old boy and driver of the Shinkalion E3 Tsubasa, which is purple and white in color. He is from a ninja family.
Hokuto Hayasugi (Voiced by: Tomokazu Sugita)
One of the main protagonists, Hokuto is a train museum curator who is also secretly the director of the SUEI. He is the father of Hayato Hayasugi. Hokuto has brown hair and a scruffy chin. He drives a golden Shinkalion called 923 Dr. Yellow.
Young Hokuto Hayasugi (Voiced by:Rie Kugimiya)
During the course of the film, the adult Hokuto disappears and a 9-year-old version of him leaps through time to work together with his son and drive the new ALFA-X Shinkalion. The two look very much alike. The ALFA-X is mostly white in color with some gold accents.
Azusa Ueda (Voiced by:Ayana Taketatsu)
An 11-year-old female YouTuber and member of the SUEI. Azusa wears pink clothes and ties her hair in twin tails.
Seiryu (Voiced by: Kei Shindo)
A former Kitoralzers agent, Seiryu becomes friends with Hayato and the others. He loves sweets and can be easily swayed by cake.
Shashot (Voiced by: Yuji Ueda)
Shashot is a conductor robot built for the Shinkalion E5 Hayabusa. He thinks of Hayato as a partner and helps support him.
Nahane (Voiced by: Kentaro Ito)
Nahane is a member of an ancient race that used to live on the Earth. He travels from another planet together with Ohanefu in order to conquer Earth and obtain the new Shinkalion, ALFA-X.
Ohanefu (Voiced by: Kotaro Yoshida)
Like Nahane, Ohanefu is of the same ancient race that used to live on the Earth. Together, they have returned from space to conquer Earth and claim the ALFA-X for themselves.
