A fragile peace has been brokered with the mysterious Zex, visitors from five other worlds. School girl Azumi Kakamigahara has been partnered with a Zex named Rigel as they each head off to the specially established Fujimisaki Academy.

Background

Z/X Code Reunion began as a collectible card game produced by Nippon Ichi Software and Broccoli and marketed as the first free-to-play series with card decks given away at card shops across Japan. A video game, Z/X Zillions of Enemy X: Zekkai no Crusade, was released for PS3 in May 2013 and the franchise has also been adapted into a manga illustrated by Karegashi Tsuchiya which began serialization in September 2012. A previous anime adaptation, Z/X Ignition, aired from January to March 2014.

Z/X Code Reunion was announced in February 2015 and adapts the manga written by Tatsuhiko Urahata and illustrated by Takuya Fujima which began serialization in V Jump in September 2017. The first season premiered on Oct. 8, 2019. Yui Ogura performs the series’ opening theme, “Destiny,” which is composed by Noriyasu Agematsu from Elements Garden. The ending theme “Girl Meets Girl” is performed by Ogura and Aya Uchida.
