Synopsis
Second-year high school student Aoi Aioi feels indebted to her sister Akane Aioi ever since her sister gave up her dream to go to Tokyo with her ex-boyfriend Shinnosuke Kanomura, a struggling guitarist, in order to take care of her after they lost their parents in an accident 13 years ago. One day Aoi is invited to perform as a session musician at a music festival for a famous enka singer named Dankichi Nitobe. On the same day Shinnosuke returns to their town after being away for a long time, and then a boy named Shinno mysteriously appears who is actually time traveling Shinnosuke from 13 years prior and Aoi falls in love for the first time...The film will center around the relationships between these four characters.
Background
Sora no Aosa wo Shiru Hito yo is a Japanese animated film set to release October 2019 in Toho Cinemas in Japan. The film has an original story written by Mari Okada. Tatsuyuki Nagai is directing and Mayasayoshi Tanaka is designing the characters as chief animation director. The trio have worked together as a creative team called Super Peace Busters - a couple of their most notable works being Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day and Toradora. It is being produced by Hiroyuki Shimizu and Genki Kawamura. Masaru Yokoyamais in charge of the film’s soundtrack. The film is being produced by CloverWorks. The film is set in Mari Okada’s hometown Chichibu, Saitama which is also the setting form Anohana and The Anthem of the Heart - another of the trio’s works. The opening theme song “Her Blue Sky” and ending theme song “Mellow Blue” are both being performed by Aimyon.

Akane Aioi is Aoi Aoi’s older sister. She is 17 years old. Her ex-boyfriend is Shinnosuke Kanomura.

Shinnosuke is Akane’s ex-boyfriend and a struggling guitarist. “Shinno” is Shinnosuke Kanomura from 13 years in the past and is high school age.

Aoi Aioi is a second-year high school student and aspiring musician.
Chika Otaki (Voiced by: Atsumi Tanezaki)
Chika Otaki is a classmate of Aoi who wants a boyfriend who is in a band.
Masamichi Nakamura (Voiced by: Fukushi Ochiai)
Masamichi Nakamura used to be a drummer in Shinnosuke’s band and is a classmate of Akane Aioi and Shinnosuke.
Dankichi Nitobe (Voiced by: Ken Matsudaira)
Dankichi Nitobe is a famous enka singer.
Masatsugu Nakamura (Voiced by: Yo Taichi)
Masatsugu Nakamura is an11-year-old fifth grader and Masamhichi’s only child.
