Synopsis
The lights shine brightly in neon drenched Kabukicho, but where there’s light there's shadow. In the midst of all the chaos, Mrs. Hudson’s tenement and its eccentric detectives stand firm. Rakugo-loving, fastidious Sherlock Holmes is joined by a pair of enchanting sisters, a former policeman and a reformed yakuza member, as they investigate their most difficult case yet when “Jack the Ripper” embarks on a deadly crime spree.
Background
Kabukicho Sherlock is an original anime project produced by Production I.G announced on Aug. 9, 2018. The first season will premiere in October 2019. Ego-Wrappin’ will perform the opening theme, “Capture,” while the ending, “Hyakuoku Konen,” will be performed by Lozareena.
Characters
Sherlock Holmes (Voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi)
One of the detectives at Mrs. Hudson’s, Sherlock Holmes is a rakugo-loving eccentric who makes use of his extraordinary powers of deduction to solve crimes.
John H. Watson (Voiced by: Yuichi Nakamura)
John H. Watson is a talented pathologist who fled to the East following a disturbing incident.
Mrs. Hudson (Voiced by: Junichi Suwabe)
Mrs. Hudson is the owner of the Pipecat bar and well known in the local area. She has a big heart and really cares about the kids from Kabukicho. Mrs. Hudson also has a beautiful singing voice and sometimes even takes part in the Pipecat’s shows.
Lucy Morstan (Voiced by: Mariko Higashiuchi)
Lucy Morstan is Mary’s “handsome” older sister. She may look cool but is earnest and straightforward. Her hobby is watching sumo. Lucy loves her sister so much that she is willing to go to any lengths to protect her. Originally from a fishing village in Aomori, Lucy drifted into the detective’s office some years ago and is the type to act rather than think.
Mary Morstan (Voiced by: Nao Toyama)
Mary Morstan is Lucy’s younger sister. She excels at reading men’s feelings and is adept at manipulating those around her, even holding her sister in the palm of her hand. She may seem like an airhead “gyaru” but is good at rationally assessing the situation, and unlike Lucy is a master tactician which makes them a great crime fighting team.
James Moriarty (Voiced by: Seiichiro Yamashita)
James Moriarty is a high school student who often hangs out at the detectives’ office. At first glance he looks like a cheeky kid but in actuality rivals Sherlock himself in his deductive abilities. He also has his softer side as seen in his collecting four leaf clovers for his little sister. James is also the leader of a gang of Kabukicho kids.
Fuyuto Kyogoku (Voiced by: Soma Saito)
Fuyuto Kyogoku is a detective who dreams of striking it rich. He’s a germaphobe who always wears gloves.
Torataro Kobayashi (Voiced by: Tatsumaru Tachibana)
Torataro Kobayashi is a former yakuza born and raised in Kabukicho. He may look stern but is a kindly big brother figure, and though his detective skills are not all that good he makes up for it in other areas. He also sometimes works part-time at the Pipecat.
Michel Belmont (Voiced by: Yutaka Aoyama)
A former policeman, Michel Belmont was once Lestrade’s boss but lost his badge and his family after a scandal. Sly and cunning, he is able to make use of both police and yakuza contacts to solve crimes. He is also a keen gambler who bets on horses, plays pachinko, and goes to casinos.
