Synopsis
Nanako Yukishiro is a shy first-year high school student who only communicates through senryu written on tanzaku. Eiji is an ex-delinquent who starts trying to write his own senryu. Using just 17 syllables, the two begin conveying their cheerful everyday activities to each other.
Background
Senryu Girl began as a four-panel manga series written and illustrated by Masakuni Igarashi with began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine in October 2016. As of December 2018, seven tankobon volumes of the manga have been published.
An anime adaptation was announced on Dec. 6, 2018. Masato Jinbo is helming the project as director and writer and Maki Hashimoto is handling character designs. Connect will produce the series. The anime will premiere on April 5, 2019 in Japan. The opening theme song is "Kotonoha no Omoi" by Sonoko Inoue.

Nanako Yukishiro (Voiced by: Kana Hanazawa)
A first-year student at Karai High School, Nanako is a member of the literature club. She is bad at communicating verbally and chooses to communicate through writing senyu (a 17-syllable poetry style focused on humor).
Eiji Busujima (Voiced by: Tasuku Hatanaka)
A first-year student at Karai High School, Eiji is a member of the literature club along with Nanako and is also her classmate. He is often misunderstood due to his tough appearance, but deep down he’s a nice guy with a soft heart.
Amane Katagiri (Voiced by: Sayuri Yahagi)
A second-year student at Karai High School, Amane is the president of the literature club. She absolutely loves love stories and cheerfully roots for Nanako and Eiji’s relationship.
Koto Otsuki (Voiced by: Rikako Aida)
A third-year student at Karai High School, Koto is a member of the US Army hand-to-hand combat club and a childhood friend of Eiji’s. She is cute with a sexy side and a strong physique.
Kino Yakobe (Voiced by: Misaki Kuno)
A first-year student at Karai High School, Kino is a member of the art club. She expresses her emotions through drawing them in a sketchbook.
Tao Hanakai (Voiced by: Sumire Uesaka)
A first-year student at Karai High School, Tao is a member of the fortune-telling club. She can ascertain anything from her fortune-telling, and she is reputed for her predictions often coming true.
