Synopsis

Middle schooler Tokio Abiko has just transferred from his rural hometown in Yamagata to the bustling metropolis of Tokyo. On his first day at his new school, Tokio runs into a mysterious classmate, Japan Hinomoto, who is the self-proclaimed master of the strange martial art known as “Todofuken” in which every region in Japan faces off with its own unique style!

Background

I’m from Japan is adapted from the popular gag manga by Seiji Hayashi which has been running in Weekly Shonen Jump since Sep. 15, 2018. The anime adaptation was announced via the official Twitter account in December 2018 and will premiere in Japan on April 7, 2019.

Characters

Japan Hinomoto (Voiced by: Minami Takayama)

Middle schooler Japan Hinomoto is the head of the Todofuken club. He refuses to say where exactly he’s from but professes to love all 47 prefectures of Japan.

Tokio Abiko (Voiced by: Kotaro Nishiyama)

Tokio Abiko is a classmate of Japan Hinomoto’s who has just transferred from Yamagata. He lives in an apartment and his hobby is housework.

Hide (Voiced by: Wataru Hatano)

Hide is a classmate of Tokio Abiko and Japan Hinomoto’s who hails from Saitama. He might look like a big guy but eats like a bird.

Masurao Kikuchi (Voiced by: Tessho Genda)

Masurao Kikuchi is Japan and Tokio’s classmate and comes from Setagaya which is a suburb of Tokyo. He is an ultra urban boy with upscale taste and elegant fashion sense.

Komachi Yuze (Voiced by: Reina Ueda)

Komachi Yuze is a classmate of Japan’s who comes from Akita. She falls in love with Japan after he saves her from being hit by a truck. She is also quite shy and slips into Akita dialect when flustered.
