Background

Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine began as a free-to-play smartphone game by Akatsuki and Kadokawa for iOS and Android that was released in Japan on June 27, 2017. Both a four-panel manga spin-off by Bkub Okawa titled Hachi Nai Gaiden: Senryoku Gai! Katato-chan and a novelization titled Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine ~Before Summer~ are being serialized on the game’s official website. The four-panel manga has also spawned a web animation titled Katato the Animation that was streamed on the game’s official website and YouTube between May and June 2017.

The anime adaptation was announced via the game’s official Twitter account on July 30. 2018. It is being directed by Susumu Kudo at TMS Entertainment with scripts by Jin Tanaka and character designs by Takayuki Noguchi. The cast is reprising their roles from the game. The anime will premiere in Japan on April 7, 2019 on TV Tokyo.
