About Riku: Background

A calm and collected teenager, Riku is not afraid to push his boundaries. However, he also has a very competitive streak when he constantly battles Sora. He often challenges Sora, but he becomes jealous of Sora due to influences around him as he has acquired friends other than him. His jealousy peaks when he finds out that Sora owns a Keyblade. As Riku has these jealous and competitive tendencies, as the story progresses, the darkness inside him tries to get the better of him.

About Riku: Abilities

Riku has been noted to have immense potential. He has always been the most assertive child on the Destiny Islands. He had been trained in combat and was skilled in weaponry and hand-to-hand combat. In addition, his athletic nature gives him the upper hand in surprise attacks. When he gains this Keyblade, he obtains both light and dark powers. This amplifies Riku's level of strength.

Riku is particularly close with Sora and Kairi. His friends play an essential role in his life as they help bring him back to humanity and stop his darkness from completely taking over him.

Sora

Sora and Riku have been best friends from a young age. While they are close friends, they also have an intense rivalry. Riku's darkness and jealousy stem from their rivalry as he feels jealous of Sora as he has created friends other than himself. Despite the many obstacles they face, both of them are unafraid to sacrifice themselves to protect each other.

Kairi

Kairi is also one of Riku's childhood friends. Like Sora, Riku is willing to sacrifice his life to protect Kairi. As children, they decide the three (Sora, Riku, and Kairi) that would travel the world together. However, plans start to go awry as Riku's jealousy becomes out of control and the darkness eats him up. No matter how awry plans go, Kairi always waits for them to return to the Destiny Islands. Kairi waits for years at Destiny Island but is captured by Organization XIII. Riku and Namine show up to rescue her and later the three childhood friends are reunited again.
