Gon Freecss is a Hunter who sets out to find his father, who he had thought had died when he was young. The story follows the many friends and battles he encounters on his journey.
About Gon Freecss: Background
As a child, Gon had been told that his parents had died. However, when he was nine years old, he was rescued by Kite, a Hunter and student of Gon’s father. After discovering that his father was alive and a successful Hunter, Gon also became a Hunter.
He is described as an athletic, friendly, and simple-minded boy, always out for an adventure. Gon is a complex character who shows both impulsive and level-headed tendencies. The differing aspects of his nature allow him to create allies and turn potential enemies into allies. When he is able to stay level-headed, he is able to showcase the intelligence that rivals Kurapika and Killua. He is also very determined to achieve his goals. His determination gets the best of him in fights, as he is always committed to beating his opponents and unable to admit defeat to those stronger than him. Due to his upbringing and the loss of his father, Gon is very sensitive to his weakness and his inability to protect those he cares about.

Gon has been highly regarded for his observation stamina and quick thinking. No matter how intense the situation is, he can provide an alternate solution and strategy to get him and his friends out. However, what makes Gon so unique is his unlimited potential. Hisoka, Wing, Biscuit, and Razor were astounded when they realized the full extent of Gon’s talent. His unlimited potential means he can learn skills at an unprecedented rate.
Gon is classified as an Enhancer; however, Biscuit’s training has also obtained Emission and Transmutation Nen types. His Nen ability was called Jajanken. Janjanken is made of three parts, with the main attack being Rock. Gon can focus all of his aura into his first and launch a devastating punch to his opponents when using Rock. Paper is an attack where he can release a fireball from his palm, and Scissors is when he can cast a blade of aura from his index and middle finger.

Gon’s ability to befriend and create allies allows him to have a great support network to rely on when needed. He works with his allies in times of need to overcome the many obstacles that come his way.
Killua Zoldyck
Killua Zoldyck befriends Gon during the Hunter Exam. At first, he seems like a cheeky person but also shows a side of violence and bloodthirstiness. He comes from a family of assassins, has a bloodthirst for violence, and thinks nothing of killing. Yet, despite all of this, the two are very close. The two will risk anything to ensure that the other is safe and alive.
Kurapika
Kurapika is also Gon’s friend, and the two meet at the Hunter Exam. He takes part in the Hunter Exam to become a Blacklist Hunter to gain the resources to avenge his clan. Kurapika is often seen alongside Killua and Gon as they try to navigate their way through the obstacles they are thrown at.
Ging Freecss
Ging Freecss is Gon Freecss's father and is the reason for Gon’s determination to become a hunter. He is a Double Star Ruins Hunter. After Gon finds out that his father is alive, he makes it his mission to find his father and figure out why he disappeared and why his father would choose to be a Hunter over being a parent. While Ging has a non-conventional way of showing it, he does seem to care for Gon in his own way.
