OtapediaHyakunosuke Ogata Golden Kamuy - Nendoroid

Since the serialization of the Golden Kamuy series in 2014, the franchise has gained a considerable following. This fan base grew even larger after the series received an anime adaptation in 2018. Although Golden Kamuy is still ongoing, many readers and viewers enjoy the series for its use of a post-war setting, interesting mysteries, and great attention to detail when it comes to representing Ainu culture and traditions.

As the franchise continued gaining more and more popularity, merchandise based on Golden Kamuy was produced. One particularly notable form of merchandise includes figures based on the many colorful characters of the series, with Good Smile Company's Nendoroid line being especially popular. While popular characters like Asirpa certainly have a large enough following to warrant Nendoroids, other characters have also received their own Nendoroid. One such example is Hyakunosuke Ogata, who saw the release of the "Nendoroid Golden Kamuy Hyakunosuke Ogata" in 2021.

Nendoroid Golden Kamuy Hyakunosuke Ogata

This figure of Hyakunosuke Ogata takes the usually dead-eyed, emotionless Ogata and turns him into a small, chibi-style figure. It has the former Superior Private wearing a navy blue, Western-style military uniform, complete with a utility belt, sword, white boots, and a white cape. Other accessories are also included in this Nendoroid figure set, such as a Type 30 Arisaka rifle, a pair of knives, a tree stump with chitatap (a type of Ainu cuisine) on it, and various other hand, arm, and leg parts. Several face plates are also included to change Ogata's expression from a distant stare to a slight smile, to an expression with his eyes closed. The cape of this figure can also be removed, allowing for even more options when it comes to customizability.

About Hyakunosuke Ogata

Hyakunosuke Ogata is a former member of the 7th Division of the Imperial Japanese Army before eventually leaving to hunt for gold on his own.

About Hyakunosuke Ogata: Background

Hyakunosuke was born into a military family and was taught how to use firearms from a very young age. As such, as he grew older, he became a remarkably skilled marksman. He eventually joined the 7th Division of the Army, one of the strongest units the Japanese military has to offer. Here, Ogata was promoted to the rank of Superior Private. Among his peers, Ogata was known for being a cold and calculating individual who could always keep a cool head no matter how much pressure he was under. He is also capable of killing without hesitation when needed but is not necessarily ruthless or bloodthirsty.

About Hyakunosuke Ogata: Abilities

As a trained sniper, Hyakunosuke has honed his body, mind, and various skills to an impressive degree. His work sometimes requires him to sit and stay motionless in harsh conditions for excruciating lengths of time to wait for a target without being detected. Ogata's sense of hearing is also honed to the point that he is able to tell the type of rifle was used when he hears a gunshot from afar. One of his most impressive traits, however, is his mental fortitude, as he can keep calm and come up with the most efficient and effective decisions even when fighting losing battles. When it comes to firearms, Ogata often uses a Type 30 Arisaka rifle, as he believes its accuracy and range far outweigh the smaller and less powerful ammunition it uses.

Other Important Golden Kamuy Characters

Two characters that Hyakunosuke Ogata encounters often in the Golden Kamuy series include the main protagonist, Saichi Sugimoto, and the deuteragonist, Asirpa.

Saichi Sugimoto

Saichi Sugimoto is the main protagonist of the series. Prior to the beginning of Golden Kamuy, Sugimoto was a soldier who fought for the Imperial Japanese Army in the Russo-Japanese War. His strong determination and impressive physical strength led him to survive many encounters and dangerous accidents, eventually earning him the name "Sugimoto the Immortal". After the end of the war, Sugimoto was set to be awarded the Order of the Golden Kite for his service but was discharged for nearly beating an officer to death.

After he was discharged from the Army, Sugimoto was left in need of money, leading him to pan for gold in Hokkaido. Here, a drunken man tells him a story of a hidden stash of Ainu gold that can only be found with a map that was spread among prisoners from Abashiri Prison. Sugimoto later finds the man killed by a bear and discovers a strange tattoo on his body, causing Sugimoto to believe the man's tale. Sugimoto then joins the hunt for the lost gold along with a young Ainu woman named Asirpa.

Asirpa

Asirpa is an Ainu huntress who was raised by her father after her mother passed shortly after giving birth. In her youth, her father taught her how to track and hunt prey, which led her to become quite proficient with traps and a bow. Although she was once a cheerful, happy child, Asirpa became cold and distant to most people after the disappearance of her father. That said, she still acts warmly toward those she cares about. Asirpa is also greatly influenced by the Ainu traditions and culture she grew up with and believes that nature should be greatly respected. That said, there are times she will knowingly break Ainu traditions as well.
