Hori san to Miyamura kun, more commonly known as Horimiya is a popular high school love series. The manga was first released on the 27th of March 2012 with an anime also being released. The story is about a strong-willed girl and a slightly introverted boy who have completely different, hidden sides to them. Both characters find out the hidden sides of each other and gradually fall in love. The male lead of the series is Izumi Miyamura. He is a young man who appears to be gloomy at first but his hidden side is very showy and flashy. Izumi is a very popular character due to the big gap between his surface appearance and his hidden appearance. Due to his popularity, there have been all sorts of products made in his design. Izumi has two different hairstyles, one is his long hair that he has at the start of the series and the other is his shorthair that he has after dating Kyoko Hori. About Izumi Miyamura
Izumi is a student at Katagiri High School who at first appears to be a gloomy and nerdy-looking character. However, Izumi hides a secret that none of his classmates know about.
About Izumi Miyamura: Background
Izumi is quite a sensitive character and carries some trauma with him. During his middle School years, Izumi was bullied by his peers since he was different from the others and ‘weird’. He mostly kept to himself at school and didn’t have friends. Because of the bullying, Izumi grew to become very pessimistic. As a form of self-harm, he would pierce his ears himself to cause pain. He has a total of nine piercings, four on each ear plus one on his lip that ends up healing over.
Despite Izumi being bullied in middle school, he had one very close friend called Kouichi Shindou. Kouichi is the one who saved Izumi from a depressing school life but Kyoko Hori is the one who saved Izumi during high school. Kyoko grows closer to Izumi after they find out each other's hidden side.
Kyoko is a popular girl with many friends but she hides the fact that she is very plain at home. She doesn’t dress up at all during her free time as she has to take care of her younger brother and make meals. Izumi appears as a gloomy otaku at school but in his free time, he dresses very differently. Instead of hiding his face with his long bangs, he ties his hair up showing his pretty and feminine features. He has a flashy appearance with many piercings which contrasts his appearance at school greatly.

There are many things that Izumi is bad at. For example, his studies are very bad, he doesn’t have much physical strength, and he has to rely on Kyoko in many situations. However, there is one thing Izumi is better at compared to Kyoko. He is good at baking cakes as his family runs a bakery.

Kyoko Hori
Kyoko is the female lead of the series, she is a bright, cheery, and popular girl. She is in the same class as Izumi and is a very popular student in school and she appears to be up to date with the trends just like a regular high school girl. The truth is, Kyoko doesn’t have time for the latest trends as she always has to take care of her household duties. Both of her parents are busy with work so she has to take care of her younger brother meaning she doesn’t have the time to dress up and hang out with her friends.
Kouichi Shindou
During middle school, Kouichi’s friends ostracized Izumi and bullied him. Although his friends didn’t like Izumi, Kouichi didn’t think the same. He treated Izumi specially and grew close to him, becoming his best friend. Izumi has stated that Kouichi was the one who saved him during middle school and they have both become very close friends. Despite Izumi always having a polite and reserved personality, when he is with Kouichi he acts and speaks roughly.
