About Draco Malfoy: Background

Draco is the son of Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. Due to his parents being Death Eaters, he strongly believes in the importance of blood purity and, as a result, is often seen terrorizing muggle-borns and blood traitors. Due to being an only child, he was also heavily spoiled and expected to obtain whatever he wanted. His upbringing leads to his arrogant, narcissistic, and bullying nature.

Despite his arrogant nature, he is very cunning and intelligent. He can deduce and create clever plans based on limited information. However, his conceited character gets in the way and fails his plans. He also has an intense rivalry with the trio, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley. He is seen bullying and mocking the trio.

About Draco Malfoy: Abilities

Draco has proven to be a very talented wizard despite his bullying nature. It has shown off his magical abilities on many occasions. For example, he cast the Leg-Locker curse in his first year, which was unheard of. He also holds a hawthorn wand, which is only gifted to those who have proven to be talented.

In particular, Draco is talented in duelling, transfiguration, charms, and dark arts. For example, he was shown to cast the advanced Protean Charm, which only Hermione had been able to master apart from him. Due to Draco's upbringing, he firmly believes that muggle-borns are inferior. This leads to an intense hostility between the Draco and Hermione Granger when they meet. On multiple occasions, Draco mocks Hermione for being a muggle-born and calls her the derogatory term "Mudblood." His dislike of her is also due to Hermione beating him in all her classes. His father tells Draco that he should be ashamed of a "mudblood" scoring better than him in his school marks. This only fuels Draco's hatred towards Hermione.

Severus Snape

Severus Snape is the only professor Draco initially respects. However, Snape also shows extreme leniency and favoritism towards Draco. Their relationships have their ups and downs. In particular, when Lucius is sent to Azkaban, Draco begins to mistrust Snape. Nevertheless, throughout the series, Snape continues to protect Draco; even when Draco fails to murder Dumbledore, he lies to Voldemort to protect Draco.
