About Tenya Iida: Background

Tenya Iida was born to the Iida Family, which has a long history of having heroes. He attended the prestigious Soumei Junior High School. He is known for his prim and proper way of talking due to his prestigious upbringing.

At first glance, Tenya seems intimidating. However, that is a result of his intelligent and disciplined self. His disciplined self also means that he has specific ways to do certain actions. For example, he has a particular way he moves his arm and rarely shows any emotion on his face. His discipline also leads to his obsession with organization, and he expects that others also have the same standard as him.

Despite his cold appearance, he is very caring to those close to him. In particular, Tenya has high respect for his older brother and strives to be like him. However, due to his intense admiration of his brother, when Hero Killer attacks him: Stain, his dark personality comes out and becomes only focused on revenge.

About Tenya Iida: Abilities

Tenya’s quirk is Engine. This quirk gives him car-like engines on his legs and enables him to run at a superhuman rate and immense leg strength. In addition, his engines can be refueled by drinking orange juice. His engines have multiple gears, and the speed and functions differ depending on it. Some of his super moves include Engine Boost, allowing him to accelerate, the Recipro Extend to gain further acceleration, and Recipro Turbo. Recipro Turbo is when Tenya removes his mufflers, he can grow new ones to boost his quirk.

Apart from his quirk, Tenya’s strength lies in his intelligence and talent in combat. Tenya placed sixth in the U.A. Entrance Exam, signifying his skill in battle. His Engine quirk allows him to move at high speeds, deal powerful kicks to opponents, and give him an edge. His academic strength can be seen when he places 2nd in the mid-terms for Class 1-A. He is also one of the only characters who realize the other parameters they are being judged on in the U.A. Entrance Exam. Tenya’s intelligence also allows him to strategize and create plans which catch opponents off guard. His quick thinking proves helpful in times of distress, and he can quickly adapt to the arising obstacles and defeat his opponents.

Due to his seemingly cold appearance and proper personality, he often gets off on the wrong foot with many of his classmates. However, over time these tend to resolve, leading to solid friendships. In particular, he is close friends with Izuku Midoriya.

Deku (Izuku Midoriya)

Tenya and Deku (Izuku Midoriya) are good friends. However, when they first met, they did not get along. Tenya found Izuku annoying at the start and was annoyed that he could not keep quiet. Later, when Izuku does not follow the rules of U.A. High School seriously, he also considers this rude and does not like him. Fortunately, his opinion of Izuku changes when he sees his heroic actions and becomes one of the first people to befriend Izuku. Ochaco Uraraka and Tenya are also good friends. Their friendship starts to blossom after Tenya and Izuku become acquainted. They are very close and trust each other. For example, Tenya is one of the select few, Ochaco has disclosed her reason to become a hero. They care greatly for each other and are willing to help each other when in distress.
